Oscar Schmidt 21 Chord Autoharp Review

I purchased this for my six year-old's birthday because her father and I play guitar and she always wants to be a part of the music practice. She is learning to strum in time and be dedicated to practicing an instrument. We all love playing this. Fabulous quality, take some time to tune. Buy the hard case for it and plenty of picks.

Dean Vendetta Revenge Custom Finish Vendetta with Heart Graphic and Hardshell Case Review

Dean Vendetta Revenge Custom Finish Vendetta with Heart Graphic and Hardshell Case
Average Reviews:

I was a little worried about the quality of this korean made guitar but it turned out to be an amazing find. Looks great(if a little gaudy)and the setup was perfect. The intonation was damn close and the action was extremely low but didn't buzz at all even when dropped to b. I play through a Madison Omen stack which pushes some serious metal chunk and the stock pickups probably would have to be replaced if you don't play with a crapload of gain but in my kind of situation the pickups lack of gain gives me an amazing ability to dial in a perfect metal sound at any volume without any hissing or feedback. I've found this great for shows and recordings sound sweet on any format. comes with a case which was a huge plus since getting a guitar shipped is a crapshoot without a case and mine was delivered in only two days. SWEEEEEEEEETTTTTT GUITAR!

Fender Standard Stratocaster HSS Electric Guitar Candy Apple Red Maple Fingerboard Review

Fender Standard Stratocaster HSS Electric Guitar Candy Apple Red Maple Fingerboard
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I did what would make most musicians cringe... I bought a new guitar online, sight unseen, no testing, no trying. The only reason I did was because of Fender's reputation, not only for the main Fender brand, but also their careful attention to the Stratocaster brand. I was not disappointed! The guitar is beautiful! The red and white body looks stunning with the maple neck. The paint job and finish are flawless and arrived well protected with peel-off plastic pieces and a micro-foam covering. Everyone who picks it up loves it, not only for the look but also the feel and the sound. The action is good (not too high, not too low) and when paired with my Fender Mustang amp, this guitar sounds like a gem. The HSS configuration is perfect... I can't think of a reason why someone would go with fewer pickups. You can always turn off some of the pickups for different sounds, but if you don't have them in the first place then you don't have the option to get the full range of sound that they provide. Definitely get the HSS, you won't regret it! This has been a wonderful addition to the home for family and friends and is everything that the Stratocaster name is supposed to represent... beauty, quality, tradition, and terrific sound.

Ovation CC28 Celebrity Super Shallow Acoustic-Electric Guitar - Honeyburst Quilt Review

Ovation CC28 Celebrity Super Shallow Acoustic-Electric Guitar - Honeyburst Quilt
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
i picked up this inexpensive acoustic/electric for playing at worship. I've owned electric acoustic guitars in the past and was very excited to find a slim roundback guitar that has good, reliable and consistent sound. It sounds good with or without the amp. The strings that came with it were a bit 'horsey' so I replaced them with lighter/brighter strings. It's quick to tune and holds tune well in inclimate weather. After three months, I decided that I like it enough to get rid of my electric guitar altogether. I'll probably upgrade to a more expensive version from Ovation -- I like it so much, I'm kind of wishing I had bought one of the upper-end models now.

I was super exited to get this guitar being that I have a few Schecter's and one being the Robert Smith ultra cure. I got my guitar today, just to open the box and pull it out with the worst warped neck I have ever seen.

Fender Highway One Stratocaster Electric Guitar Flat Black Maple Fretboard Review

Fender Highway One Stratocaster Electric Guitar Flat Black Maple Fretboard
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I got the black one with s/s/s and a maple neck
the finish is smooth and matte nitro. the neck has a matte finish as well and is thin and fast with a wide fingerboard and wide string spacing... 10 inch radius... this neck is awesome fast..!!!
The pickups are very HOT wound alnico 3s and have a rich woody tone. the rwrp middle pickup basically gives you awesome humbucker performance in positions 2 and 4. the alder body is 3 piece and resonates well. the sustain was improved when I installed a callaham bridge block.. unplugged this guitar is LOUD.
Because of the rwrp middle pickup though you do lose some strat quack but it more than makes up for it with the humbucker behavior you get in pos 2 and 4... I love this guitar.. weighs only 7.5 pounds.. screams and is a fast player..

Alvarez Acoustic Guitar AJ60SC Cutaway Jumbo Top Solid Spruce Back & Side Flamed Maple Review

Alvarez Acoustic Guitar AJ60SC Cutaway Jumbo Top Solid Spruce Back and Side Flamed Maple
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This guitar is awesome!
Pros: Great jumbo sound, very even mids, lows and highs. The guitar looks incredible with its flamed maple back and sides. Plugged to an amp, it sounds great, BUT it takes forever to "dial" in and get the sound you desire. The electronics and pre-amp are top quality, and Alvarez uses the same pre-amp on their $2000.00 guitars.
Negatives: I had to return the first one Amazon sent because of some issues in the paint and some dents to the finish. Also, the second one they sent was ok, except the preamp battery compartment was loosened and the 9 volt battery fell out and was loose in the body of the guitar throughout the whole shipping process, so that left some dents to the inside of the guitar, but so far, no damage to the outside of the body that I could see. Also, the pre-amp box was not screwed to the body in the right place, so there is a screw that holds one side down that isnt "anchored" to anything--it just stays in with gravity, so if you lean the guitar backwards, the screw falls out.
This guitar is discontinued, and the new models have Spalted Maple back and sides and costs 2-3 times as much as this one. Flamed maple is more expensive, and if you want the flamed maple back and sides, this is the one you have to get. If you can find one, BUY IT!

Dean Cadillac 1980 - Pinkburst Electric Guitar Review

Dean Cadillac 1980 - Pinkburst Electric Guitar
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have a late-model version of this guitar but in amber burst and gold hardware - Korean-made, which I expect this one is also. It was bought used from a friend/co-worker.
I had handled his guitar when he brought it to work one day and found it solid and smooth but I wasn't interested in it per se. But when I found myself in the market rather suddenly (friend of my daughter's wanted to take guitar lessons - but only from me!) I tried a new Gibson Les Paul and quite frankly, found it wanting: finish didn't feel good, pots were chintzy - disappointing. But I thought of the Dean and said to myself, "mahogany; set neck; 'buckers in a four-knob arrangement...would I not be in the ballpark?"
These Cadillacs are very neck-heavy; the long large headstock guarantees this. But I didn't *realize* it was neck-heavy until I tried a slippery strap; use one that is suede-ey or somewhat unfinished leather on the bottom and you'll never know. I have found that the headstock's mass often makes me want to shake-vibrato whole chords.
Access to the upper frets is a little bit compromised by the neck heel; a strap that doesn't narrow down at the end exacerbates this; the strap button is attached at the heel and points backward. I use a rough-bottomed leather strap with an adjustable sling turned backward so that the sling part goes to the heel button.
The string angles at the nut are a little extreme and you really must lube it with Nut Sauce or something similar; even plain strings will catch. If you are thinking about a whammy bar, you *must* have a locking nut and I can't tell you for sure if there even is one that can accommodate the angles. I've decided against trying it.
I should point out that my friend had had an active EMG kit (pull-knob single-coil switches for bridge and neck) put in place of the stock pickups. When my friend did the AMG kit, he just dropped the battery in the control cavity wrapped in foam and electrical tape; I had a proper pop-out battery holder installed and am much happier. I can get a bit into Strat and Tele territory in single-coil mode; all in all, there's a lot of flexibility with this kit.
So I would tell you, if you like the combination rad/trad look of this guitar and you like Les-Paul-like guitars as a class, *buy* the guitar; *try* the guitar. Use the additional money you might have spent to get a Gibson and try a pickup kit you like the idea of, passive or active. Because I have come to know my Cadillac with the EMGs and really, really enjoy it, I will probably never change them out, but you would do well to think of this guitar as a test bed for LP-style pickup/control combinations...there are so many wonderful choices!

Average Reviews:

I am really happy with this guitar. There are some problems though. The picture doesnt show the true color of the guitar, it's actually a little more bronze than reddish, which i like. The wiring inside the guitar is stuck by an adhesive that is covered in sawdust and no longer sticks anywhere so the wires are easily visible in the sound hole. However, i cont bring myself to send it back and get a new one because i cant stop playing it. To wait another week or two to get another one would be torture. The guitar sounds great and is easy to play both plugged in and unplugged. the onboard controls are nice and the tuner makes tuning easy. I even hooked it up to a distortion pedal for some fun

It have a very fast neck with soft feel. Its pickups deliver a known Stratocaster sound, so bluessy. No buzz on frets and very easy to play.
I give it a 4 star because takes a lot of time to get it in tune string by string, but once you get it done there's no more trouble, sound clearly like a good Strat do...

Guild GAD-30 - Natural Mahogany Orcehstra 6-String Acoustic w/ Deluxe Case Review

Guild GAD-30 - Natural Mahogany Orcehstra 6-String Acoustic w/ Deluxe Case
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have read many glowing reviews about the Guild GAD models, including this OM model.
1. The good: Beautiful exterior finish, light weight, wonderful tone response, fast neck, solid woods. I ordered the mahogany back and sides, and it was just what I wanted. (I am favoring mahogany over rosewood for my next steel stringed acoustic guitar).
2. The unusual: wide string spacing. (Great for finderpicking)
3. The Bad: The high E string (first string, thinnest string) would come off the fret when I did pulls from the third fret while fretting the 1st fret. This is a common technique, and my playing style is full of such ornaments. I first experienced this while noodling. So I played a baroque piece with a lot of ornamentation, and discovered the location, and that it was a consistent error. I could learn to play without having the string fret out like this, but only by avoiding what caused it in the first place, in other words, by compromising the music. When a string pulls out like this, what happens is the string snaps back against the outside of the fret, making a tinkly noise instead of the tone that you expected. The reason this happened seems to be that the neck was made too narrow at the lower frets in error. Rather than scrap the guitar, or changing the string spacing at the nut, Guild Asia decided to just ship it and hope for an undiscerning customer.

A less serious issue, which has been pointed out by several other users, is that the bracing that is out of sight is roughly finished, while that which is visible near the sound hole is
finished smoothly.
Now for the bad part (for me): Because I purchased this from an Amazon affiliate with completion by Amazon, I was forced to pay the full return shipping costs, plus insurance. Bad deal for me. I could have corrected the problem, or had it fixed by a luthier, by changing the string spacing at the nut with a nut replacement. But that enters into the error of me fixing someone else's problem. I don't feel that that is the customer's role. Also, when I saw how the error occurred--the fingerboard seemed to be over rounded at the top edge, and was actually thinner than the neck--well, then I couldn't be happy with the instrument. There simply wasn't enough real estate for the 1st string because they chose to accommodate the 6th string. Someone at Guild GAD should have made the call to take a loss on the instruments with the flaw. Instead, they chose to sell them to unsuspecting customers. No more Guild anything for me. You can buy $300 guitars from major manufacturers all day long without this kind fo error. It is inexcusable. I will never purchase another guitar from or through Amazon, and no Guilds for me either. Never. And in the future I will make sure that I have some confidence in the seller by phone at least before purchasing an instrument online. I had formerly placed this confidence in Amazon, but that is over. In the future, I will be using Amazon less.

Taylor Guitars 655-CE Jumbo 12 String Acoustic Electric Guitar Review

Taylor Guitars 655-CE Jumbo 12 String Acoustic Electric Guitar
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I wasn't even really looking for a new 12 string. My current one is 35 yrs old though it was always only just adequate. I first played a Taylor jumbo-style 12 (355) about 10 yrs ago and was taken aback by the huge quality of the sound so when I picked this one up I suspected that I would be pleased. What I did not expect was to be blown away. Maple guitars are typically bright but the pureness of the tone and the level of sustain of this guitar is unmatched by any I have ever played. A friend and fellow guitar player picked it up over the weekend and, without any prompting, said that this was the best 12 string guitar he had ever played and that I had hit a home run. I have to admit that this helped to assuage my guilt over spending the $3K and that my wife heard the comment also quieted the "why did you need another guitar...?" I played at least a other dozen 12 strings the day I bought this guitar (Martins, Guilds, other Taylors, new, used, etc.) but none could match this one for the tone that I love in a great 12. It also sounds pretty good plugged in (though you won't need to). Choosing a guitar is always a personal matter but you will be missing out on a very special instrument if you don't give this one a try. It will be the last one you'll ever need. ps. My other guitars are Martins and Gibsons so I do not have a Taylor bias.
