I did what would make most musicians cringe... I bought a new guitar online, sight unseen, no testing, no trying. The only reason I did was because of Fender's reputation, not only for the main Fender brand, but also their careful attention to the Stratocaster brand. I was not disappointed! The guitar is beautiful! The red and white body looks stunning with the maple neck. The paint job and finish are flawless and arrived well protected with peel-off plastic pieces and a micro-foam covering. Everyone who picks it up loves it, not only for the look but also the feel and the sound. The action is good (not too high, not too low) and when paired with my Fender Mustang amp, this guitar sounds like a gem. The HSS configuration is perfect... I can't think of a reason why someone would go with fewer pickups. You can always turn off some of the pickups for different sounds, but if you don't have them in the first place then you don't have the option to get the full range of sound that they provide. Definitely get the HSS, you won't regret it! This has been a wonderful addition to the home for family and friends and is everything that the Stratocaster name is supposed to represent... beauty, quality, tradition, and terrific sound.

Fender Highway One Stratocaster Electric Guitar Flat Black Maple Fretboard Review

I got the black one with s/s/s and a maple neck
the finish is smooth and matte nitro. the neck has a matte finish as well and is thin and fast with a wide fingerboard and wide string spacing... 10 inch radius... this neck is awesome fast..!!!
The pickups are very HOT wound alnico 3s and have a rich woody tone. the rwrp middle pickup basically gives you awesome humbucker performance in positions 2 and 4. the alder body is 3 piece and resonates well. the sustain was improved when I installed a callaham bridge block.. unplugged this guitar is LOUD.
Because of the rwrp middle pickup though you do lose some strat quack but it more than makes up for it with the humbucker behavior you get in pos 2 and 4... I love this guitar.. weighs only 7.5 pounds.. screams and is a fast player..

Fender Standard Stratocaster HSS Electric Guitar Lake Placid Blue Maple Fingerboard Review

In an earlier life, I was a rockabilly bass player--both upright and electric bass-- but never owned an electric six-string. Played acoustical six- and 12-string back in the folk music days of the 1960's. I saw this Strat on the Amazon site and the Lake Placid Blue paint job caught my attention. Since one of my favorite albums is Tony Joe White's "Lake Placid Blues" I thought this must be a sign from God. I clicked it into the cart and the rest is history. Now I'm an aging Swamp Rocker!
Out of the box this axe plays well and the sound is truly Stratocaster. Even my wife (a classical guitar junkie) even recognized the penetrating Strat sound. With a $500 price tag this little Fender is hard to beat. The gig bag is more than adequate protection unless you are planning on opening for the Stones at Radio City Music Hall and need to ship it to New York. :>)
Since my experience has been all acoustical, the Strat will take some 'getting used to' but I don't see that as a major problem and it certainly isn't the guitar's fault.
Anyway, I don't have any reservations about recommending this Fender.
So put one in your shopping cart and I'll see ya at Radio City Music Hall. We'll teach the Rolling Stones a thing or two!

I just got this from Amazon affiliate seller Music 123. They got it to me in six days (it would have been five had it not been for UPS' characteristically infuriating inefficient routing) from the night I ordered it. It came in a top notch case with a Fender guitar strap, a polish cloth, a couple of Allen wrenches and a sturdy ten foot cord. My other main online music instrument shops had been out of this item for a while, so I was stoked to find another vendor I could depend on to get it to me in a sane amount of time and in an intact state.
Anyway, it was packed in a box that was swaddled by thick paper bags, which was in turn packed into a thick cardboard box. Not a scratch on the instrument, the finish on the neck was smooth and immaculate, the tone was bright and, when you wack your amp up to an approximation of Richie Blackmore's settings, a little slashing. The action was low (typical with guitars that are shipped, though, the strings were a half step out of tune, but nonetheless in relative tuning with the g string a bit flat. Took all of about a minute to put them at standard tuning and it held even with some t-bar abuse) with only the barest buzz on the low E at the first fret. Whoever set this up at the factory did a nice job. I don't think I will need to have it taken in for a setup as as things stand now.
Yes, there was the famous 60 cycle single coil hum, but not annoyingly loud and that was while playing it directly in front of a tv that was on at the time. I think I can live with it for now. I haven't tried it through my pedal board yet since I am in the process of rejiggering my pedal lineup, but if the hum gets out of hand when I stomp on my Bad Monkey, for example, even with a noise suppressor, I will just have some vintage noiseless pickups installed to solve the problem. Not a big deal.
So yeah, to quote Johnny Thunders, I am in love, L-U-V, with this thing.

Fender Deluxe Player's Stratocaster Electric Guitar Crimson Red Transparent Rosewood Fretboard Review

Best sounding Strat I have ever played and I have had many classic Strats in the last 50 years of playing. Nice beefy easy to play neck with a lot more sustain than for instance my 62 slab due to the extra wood used making the neck. Whole body has integrity and plays very loud and twangy unplugged! Still super easy to play even with a C neck instead of a thin neck.
Came well set up from the factory. Good string spacing, strings go right over top of pole pieces if a little bit close to the edge...but that's how I like 'em personally. No gaps around heel. No blems or finish flaws. Looks and plays really well for right out of the box.
Other than the slightly outrageous gold plating and white pickup covers which look a bit garish, nothing to find fault with. And if I change the plastic bits to black that is because I prefer understatement. Others may flip for how "sharp" looking this one is and not touch a thing. Heck it might grow on me, and if not, small beans.
Now besides having great integrity and singing sound even unplugged, how about those "vintage noiseless" pickups, you ask. Well in a word they are the best tone I have in my collection and the best tone I can recall from memory of the many Strats I have loved. And here's the shocker...Zero Noise! I mean Zero. Quieter than Lace Sensors. Quieter than humbuckers even. Like other than residual tube rush in your amp you won't be able to even tell your guitar is on 'cos the noise is just not there. I can't tell you I have tested it yet in a "stage from hell" scenario but I have checked it out around well known noise areas that drive my over driven tube setup nuts---and I get perfect results. It's scary quiet.
And perfect tone. Where my 62 slab for example has too much of a glassy tone if I push it this set of pups just sound bell like and sweet, and just as soulful. No more icepick in the ear...just clear pure vintage tone for miles. Plus they are loud and big sounding in the best way. Clapton just specified putting these pickups in all his stage rigs if that tells you anything. You don't have to believe little old me, what do I know, lol.
Fender I love you, great job. I would sleep with this guitar in my bed if I could, yes I am nuts about it. I really wasn't expecting this much guitar for such a reasonable price.

Just received the guitar, and in a word - Beautiful! Arrived in perfect condition. Plugged it in right away, and it plays wonderfully. In tune right out of the box. Nice low action. Had doubts when I ordered it, but the satin finish is awesome. I was also a little anxious about the jumbo frets based on what I had read, but my fears evaporated when I played it. The big frets are really nice. Feels good and plays easy. I have mild arthritis in my left hand so I need a neck that feels well in my hand. This guitar fits the bill. My first Fender - I love it!
