Gibson LES PAUL STD 50'S NECK Review

Gibson LES PAUL STD 50'S NECK
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I was undecided between a Fender and a Gibson Les Paul. I checked out U-tube reviews and sounds and took the leap of faith and purchased the 2008 Gibson Les Paul Standard with 50's neck. WOW. Say it with me now... WOW. Absolutely beautiful fit and finish on this guitar. This is the type of guitar that you pass down to your children. It has a very throaty voice unlike the Fenders. Fenders were very twangy to me and that's fine if you like that sort of sound. Not for me. The guitar has a very ballsy/throaty/blues-rock sound to it. I have it paired with a Line 6 75 watt amp. They are a very good pairing. You'll love this amp as well. It provide hundreds of different sounds at the touch of several buttons. However, lets get back to this guitar. I know it's a lot of money, but you will not be disappointed. Holds it tune, and is a bit lighter as well. This is the type of instruments that you have a hard time putting down since it sounds soooo good.

Squier by Fender Vintage Modified Jazzmaster Special, 2 Tone Sunburst Review

This is the worst kind of two-star review. Got this guitar and it sounded GREAT. Crystal clear upper midrangey P-90 pickups. Real nice. And it looked beautiful, a polyester varnish on ash. A great flamed neck. Guess what, the tone pot on the rhythm pickup was defective not only when I received it, but also on the replacement I received. So.... guess I'll return them both for a full refund. Thank goodness for Amazon.

Gibson Les Paul Standard Traditional Pro Electric Guitar Vintage Sunburst Review

Gibson Les Paul Standard Traditional Pro Electric Guitar Vintage Sunburst
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Gibson Les Paul Standards are a bit showier then the lower priced studio models but never count Studios out, this is a Standard Traditional Pro which also feature coil taps. Coil taps split the pickups, so even with your hefty bridge pickup (a BurstBucker 3) you can get a single coil bluesy sound. You will find the neck pickup to be a 57' Classic, which only further compliments the look and sound, presenting that much more authenticity to replicating a vintage tone. Hardware is the usual chrome, and tuners are locking grovers. Those not familiar with LP's there is a 3-way toggle switch/pickup selector. With the coils `tapped' leaving the switch in the middle position can lead to many unique tones, play around with both volume pots while in this position really interesting.
The neck is of a 60's profile, the fret board is made of high quality rosewood. The looks of the fret board are upped with the trapezoid inlays. Yes this LP has a binding (`antique binding'), it's rare to find a LP without one. Standard Traditional Pro models are not chambered, those hunting literally a more traditional LP sound this is a good start. Notes are clearer, where as often times chambered LP can make sharp notes fatter. Crème pickguards are another way these LP pop visually. Three variants are currently available, ebony, vintage sunburst, and heritage cherry sunburst. The vintage sunburst looks similar to a (Gibson) Les paul Studio Deluxe, minus the grain effect. The neck, oh and backside too, has a satin finish, similar in feel to some other models like the (Epiphone) Les Paul Ultra, well the original model not the II which I have yet to play. Supposedly this finish helps resonation, honestly I don't know, feels nice though. The top is a high-gloss lacquer finish.
The sound what you'd expect from an old school style Les Paul, especially considering the whole BurstBucker 3 ordeal. Heavy thick overdriven rock chords, ashy bluesy single notes, and a brooding clean. Muddiness isn't a problem here, this LP really comes through. As mentioned earlier with the coil taps expect versatility, but to be honest, if you lift the volume pot while having the selector on `Treble', the sound (on clean channels) can be very brittle and twangs of something umm unique.
So if you're hunting down another LP for your collection, or wish to begin with one of these models make sure you are familiar with all the small touches. Things like being non chambered, the finish, the pickups, and body when all combined can affect the sound. Also really make sure you are familiar with the BurstBucker 3's, also luckily this isn't the case, but one may benefit from reading about pickups that aren't waxed. I'm posting this review, as this was one of the guitars I was choosing between awhile back for another LP. I ultimately ended up choosing the Studio Deluxe model over this (which is cheaper), but this is definitely not a guitar to overlook. You get the full package, sound, looks, playability, and versatility.

I know this isn't the exact guitar that Springsteen plays, but it's very similar and affordable. It feels great in my hands, sounds fuller and meatier, and just looks awesome. Nothing beats an affordable Telecaster.

Amazon sent a JPX 6 instead of the JPX 7. With considerable difficulty I explained this to them. They were insistent that I return the item at my expense (to include insurance). I refused and insisted that they arrange and pay for collection, they eventually agreed. They also eventually credited my credit card account. However, with currency exchange costs, I remain out of pocket by about $150!
I did buy the guitar elsewhere and my son is very pleased with it.

Fender Special Edition Custom Telecaster Spalted Maple HH Electric Guitar Spalted Maple Review

Fender Special Edition Custom Telecaster Spalted Maple HH Electric Guitar Spalted Maple
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Got a spalted maple telecaster. Was set up nice out of the box. It has the SD59 in the neck and Pearly Gates pup in the bridge. Much brighter sound than my Gibson Les Paul Studio faded cherry, and Les Paul Traditional Pro. The split pickups are a great feature, which converts the humbuckers into a single coil. Not quite as twangy as a regular telecaster, but you can tell the difference between the pickups being split and not. The neck pickup is not quite as bright, and I use it with the tone turned all the way down for almost an acoutic type of feel. I prefer the humbuckers to single coils because of the more full sound. With the mahogony body, maple top, set neck, binding and humbuckers, it's probably closer to a Gibson than a Fender. Some have said that it sounds more like an SG, but not owning one, I couldn't say.
On the negative side for me, Fenders tend to have longer necks, and as a result strings need to be under higher tension to give the same note versus a Gibson. As a result, I find it a little more difficult to bend notes on this guitar than on my Gibsons. It's wider frets are nice to play, especially if you are doing 2nd guitar or just playing chords.
While the bridge pickup is pretty bright, surprisingly, its not as bright as the Burstbucker 3 in my traditional pro. Yet, the traditional pro with its pickup split still can't get quite as twangy as the Telecaster.
If you are a true Telecaster fan, and love the traditional twang, this guitar is not for you. However, if you like Gibsons and want a change of pace, this is a really nice guitar. Not a 100% traditional sound, but sounds pretty good. And you won't sound like all of the telecasters and les pauls out there.

I was looking for a 12 string to play in my new band Totshi and chose the stargazer 12. It has features of a more expensive guitar like tap coil, binded neck, graphite nut, humbucker pickups, and 25 and one half scale. This 12 string is easy to play and it stays in tune and really sounds good.

Gibson RD Standard Electric Guitar Ebony Review

Gibson RD Standard Electric Guitar Ebony
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Overall, I love my RD reissue (I have the 2007 silverburst edition). It is a sturdy guitar that balances well around my neck and is also comfortable to rest on my leg while seated. The 24 3/4" scale is shorter than the original RD (which was 25 1/2"), so it's not the brightest sounding guitar, but it has a nice full tone. I installed Gibson Tony Iommi signature humbuckers in my RD and the sound is fantastic. I've heard only good things about the Burstbuckers, so I am sure they sound awesome loaded into this axe.
The one thing that must be noted about the RD's unusual body shape is that access to the uppermost frets is limited. The simplest way to put it is, when playing in A, your left hand is slightly obstructed if you wish to play in the 17-20th fret range. As much as I love this guitar, I do wish the designers had trimmed just a bit more wood off of the lower horn. For any guitarists who do a lot of shredding and high-register soloing, this would be a significant problem.
The neck is a bit thicker than the one on my Les Paul, but it actually feels perfect to my hands. The rosewood fingerboard feels terrific, I can bend and slur all day long :) It stays in tune well also.
If not for the little nuisance of the reduced fret range, I'd give it 5 stars.

Fender Highway One Stratocaster Electric Guitar Flat Black Maple Fretboard Review

Fender Highway One Stratocaster Electric Guitar Flat Black Maple Fretboard
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I got the black one with s/s/s and a maple neck
the finish is smooth and matte nitro. the neck has a matte finish as well and is thin and fast with a wide fingerboard and wide string spacing... 10 inch radius... this neck is awesome fast..!!!
The pickups are very HOT wound alnico 3s and have a rich woody tone. the rwrp middle pickup basically gives you awesome humbucker performance in positions 2 and 4. the alder body is 3 piece and resonates well. the sustain was improved when I installed a callaham bridge block.. unplugged this guitar is LOUD.
Because of the rwrp middle pickup though you do lose some strat quack but it more than makes up for it with the humbucker behavior you get in pos 2 and 4... I love this guitar.. weighs only 7.5 pounds.. screams and is a fast player..

Jackson SLAT3-6 Soloist Archtop Electric Guitar Black Review

Jackson SLAT3-6 Soloist Archtop Electric Guitar Black
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I own 3 Jackson's, 2 USA and 1 "pro" model. The pro arch top soloist has a slightly thicker neck than the USA soloist but other than that it is almost every bit as good as the USA version. True it has perloid inlays instead of the awesome abalone inlays of my USA models but as a player it ranks right up there. I use it on stage along side my USA Jacksons and there is really almost no difference.
I play through a pair of Marshall full stacks with the JVM-410H head pre-amping to a Marshall EL34 100/100 dual mono-block power amp. I also use a Fulltone Fat Boost and a Fulltone Wah and a Digitech Time Bender. The Jackson pro soloist sounds great through this rig. The fret board is pure Jackson shred, I can do anything on this guitar that I can do on my USA soloist or the USA RR1. It's a great guitar for the price, and a grand less than the USA version.
If you can afford the USA Jackson's then buy them, I think they are the best playing guitars on the planet, but if you are short on cash the Japanese made Jackson's are a very high quality guitar for the price. The Floyd Rose is a real Floyd, not a cheapo 'licensed' version and the tuners are real Grover's too. The pickups on mine are real Seymour Duncan humbuckers not some off the wall garbage. The jack, switch and pots are all high quality hardware, nothing cheap on this guitar except the inlays.
The neck and headstock are bound, the quality of the binding is exquisite. Frets are premium nickel-silver jumbos, 24 fret neck, they are dressed perfectly for real low action. If this guitar had MOP or abalone inlays you would not be able to tell it was an import.

Gibson Les Paul Studio Deluxe Electric Guitar Vintage Sunburst Review

Gibson Les Paul Studio Deluxe Electric Guitar Vintage Sunburst
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
In my opinion, this is one of the best valued Gibson Les Paul. This is certainly very subjective, but I'm basing my verdict alongside another highly rated Gibson Les Paul Faded in mind.
I don't own a Les Paul faded but I have played it a few times at the Rock Shop in New Zealand. There's no doubt that it is a great instrument and represents one of the best valued Gibson Les Paul on offer. However, to my ears, there isn't much between the faded or the Deluxe in terms of sound.
The deluxe is listed at @1400 while the faded is listed @800. So how can the deluxe be of greater value than the faded? Ok, if you have to include a genuine Gibson case, this could easily add 200-250 dollars to the equation. So we're now talking a difference of less than 350-400 - and if Music123 or GuitarCenter is running a 15% sale - we can be talking even smaller margins.
With the extra 400 dollars, you get A grade mahogany neck and back, A grade maple, 60's neck (instead of 50's), painted finish and non-chambered construction + Grover tuners. Then you also get the coil tapping, which allows the pickup to behave like a single coil. This definitely adds to the already impressive tone diversity of the guitar.
A non-chambered finish with 60 neck are important attributes - I'm used to playing a solid body guitar with a slim neck - it was an Ibanez beginner package guitar, but its got decent action and feel, and I'm also used to a heavy guitar with a non-chambered construction.
I think the painted finish is also an important factor. I visited the shop while checking out the Faded and found myself in a situation that I would not want to pick either of the faded finish - because it really looked dull (And I did not like the 50's neck as much). I thought to myself if I'm going to own one and only one Gibson, I should own one that I think it looks nice (to my taste). (Insteading of spending 800 and still look dull)
So I have comfortably found a justification of spending the extra $400 :).
How did it play? Like a Gibson I suppose. Famous low action, great tone choice, charming style, massive sustain, looked great too. One thing I did not like, perhaps that is just on my guitar, is that the pickup switch don't seem to work how I'm expecting it to. In the middle position, the neck pickup seems to be dependent on the bridge pickup's setting.
I wish my opinion is of good reference for people with similar budget. Even if you don't end up buying this guitar, you should have a good glance at it.

Fender American Deluxe Stratocaster Electric Guitar 3-Color Sunburst Rosewood Review

Fender American Deluxe Stratocaster Electric Guitar 3-Color Sunburst Rosewood
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I own a 2009 Fender American Deluxe Strat among several other guitars. This is by far the nicest guitar I've ever owned. Mine is 3-tone sunburst, and the finish is flawless. I searched carefully and couldn't find anything wrong with it. It's an absolutely beautiful guitar. As soon as I took it out of the box, I immediately plugged it in to give it a whirl. My wife was in the other room and said,"I didn't know you could play guitar that good!" This is after twenty years of listening to me play. The setup was perfect for me out of the box. I didn't need to adjust a thing. The frets are extremely smooth and comfortable for extended playing. The neck is narrow like most Strats, but it works perfectly for my small hands. The noiseless pickups are actually noiseless! There was none of the annoying hum I have with my cheaper Squier Strat's single coil pickups. With the S-1 switch, it has a lot of different pickup combinations that allow me to play in almost any style from country to blues to metal. I haven't even figured out what all it can do yet. I just know it can make a ton of different sounds.
I have nothing bad to say. This is an excellent guitar. It's a high end, professional guitar at a decent price. I recommend it highly.

I just perchased this guitar for $500, and it was one of the best desicions I have ever made, but if you are prepared to spend 1300 dollars on an Epiphone, I would spend the extra $300 and get a Gibson, but if you find it between 500-900 dollars, buy the Epiphone, it sounds the same as the Gibson, but I wouldn-t spend over $1000 on an Epiphone when the Gibson has a higher resale value and better paint job.

Gibson Flying V 1968 Electric Guitar, Ebony - Chrome Hardware Review

Gibson Flying V 1968 Electric Guitar, Ebony - Chrome Hardware
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The legendary Flying V by Gibson is one of the top guitars of choice for all music afficionados. I bought my first "V" when I toured with the second re-grouping of Screaming Lord Sutch. I have always loved the remarkeable sustain the V can produces even while being beaten with a bratwurst. I now own three V's and would not part with any of them. There durable construction is a bonus as well. I once clubbed an irrate sound technician in the face with one while doing studio work for "The Filth" back in 93. Once while performing with The Defecators I actually used my 2nd V to bat in incoming beer bottle back into the crowd during a show in Hamburg. The action is very light and perfect for doing solo's with your tongue. My 3rd V can be heard on tracks 2, 4 and 5 on Meat Sticks 3rd album..."Whats for lunch".
