Steinberger Spirit XT-25 5-String Standard Bass Black Review

Steinberger Spirit XT-25 5-String Standard Bass Black
Average Reviews:

this is the one of the best basses in this price range that you can buy. period. great construction and quality. double ball tuning sytstem is awesome. the looks take a little getting used to, but once you do its awesome. the dual emg humbuckers are great. u can get whatever sound u want, from real punchy to mellow tones. the leg rest is kinda useless, and the gig bag provided isnt the best, so if you are going to carry it around i suggest you just use a normal bass gig bag...it works perfectly fine.

Copley CBE-59NT Review

Copley CBE-59NT
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
When I first purchased my Copley 5-string I had a couple reservations. I hadn't heard anything about the company so therefore had little to go on. As soon as it arrived my mind was put at ease. Great craftsmanship combined with quality materials make this one of the sweetest sounding 5-string basses I've heard. Tons of sustain & heaps of crunchy deep tones. After having it a couple months, I decided to strip the entire guitar and go with a natural wood finish. I also decided to remove the frets while I was at it, since I prefer to play only fretless. All in all... money well spent! Copley offered a very high quality product which I modified to meet my preferences.

Fleabass Junior 3/4 Size Bass Guitar Blue and Orange (Water) Review

Fleabass Junior 3/4 Size Bass Guitar Blue and Orange (Water)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I got this bass for travel. It's shorter than a short-scale bass,
weighs only 7 lb. and is snug in its bag and carries very easily.
It plays very nicely and does the job as an enjoyable playable travel
bass. It's not a bass I'd play much more than that, however, as it's
not of super quality, but good quality. However, it is half the price
of the Traveler II Bass which sounded remarkably awful and felt awful
to play and was nearly impossible to tune or restring. For a kid or
easy on-the-go, this bass is a perfect solution.

Epiphone Limited Edition Les Paul Special Bass with Flame Maple Top Transparent Black Review

Epiphone Limited Edition Les Paul Special Bass with Flame Maple Top Transparent Black
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Gibson makes great guitars. Their lower end Epiphone brand has a similar look and sound for a substantially lower price.
This bass is great for beginner/intermediate players and sounds great. You will need a decent sized amp to get a good bass tone. The transparent black is nice looking with a wavy look. The strings that it comes with are not bad, but I changed them after a few weeks. The fretboard is okay, nothing fancy, but the guitar is only $299. At this price range, you are getting good quality and the instrument looks really good. I would recommend playing one at a local guitar store first if possible to make sure it feels and sounds right. You should expect to pay about the same amount on an amp or more if you will playing in a band.

Bassfish Bass Guitar Package- Sunburst Review

Bassfish Bass Guitar Package- Sunburst
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this bass guitar as a christmas gift for a 10-year old boy. The guitar and amplifier are perfect for a kid starting to play. The quality of the guitar, pickups and amplifier are quite good. I was hesitant about the size/length of the guitar but it's perfect for him. I'd suggest this is a nice starter kit, one that will definitely meet our needs for a few years, at least.

Yamaha RBX170 Electric Bass Package, Blue Review

Yamaha RBX170 Electric Bass Package, Blue
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've read and researched as much as I could before buying a beginning bass. For being under $200 this is truly as good as it gets. I love the feel of this bass, the sound is great and it looks great. Just make sure you do a set up as all new stringed instruments require one. Initially the action was too low making fret buzz but after a set up the guitar works wonderfully. I had a bit of a problem since this packaged claimed to bring picks which mine did not but after calling Amazon they gladly gave me new ones. The DVD is good but I suggest looking else where to learn how to play. The DVD goes from learning positions (which is great) and how to move around to playing octaves and root notes. Basically it assumes you already known how to read notes or know where the notes on the fingerboard is.

Dean Edge 4 Fretless Bass, Trans Amber Review

Dean Edge 4 Fretless Bass, Trans Amber
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I love everything about my new Dean Edge 4 fretless bass. I no longer have that fret buzz, and it has a knob that can turn it way down to bass if I like, or not depending on the kind of music. I love the color of the wood, the feel of the body against my own body, the smooth to rumbly sounds, the freedom to hit the notes exactly (you cannot do that on a regular fretted bass). And I love being able to slide smoothly up and down the neck without frets getting in the way.
It did take me a couple of weeks just messing around, playing on it to train my ears and get used to how to hit the notes right. At first I was kind of sloppy, but don't give up because once you get the hang of it you are in heaven.
This is my first fretless and I just love it. Not for someone who does not have ears trained to hear a scale. In order to use this or any fretless bass, you have to know by ear if you are hitting a little sharp or flat. There are markers on the neck which do help, but ... I wouldn't think of getting any other bass right now, I am having so much fun with this one.

Average Reviews:

I've owned this Bass for 9 years...and still like it. It's fast, comfortable, and clean enough to jam brutal metal jams...add Distortion, and you have a metal monster...just dial in the tone with some heavy strings...I'm using a .130 low E, and tuned down....This price Amazon advertises is less than I paid from a music shop....so, buy this Bass.., you won't be sorry....

At this price point you would expect much better quality and setup. Buzzing frets and other issues. I purchased a Rogue 5 string bass for $100 and it had reasonable quality and good setup. No excuse for this. Contacted Washburn and they basically said I should pay to have the frets fixed...right.

LightWave Saber Bass Hybrid 5-String Fretted, UltraBlack Review

LightWave Saber Bass Hybrid 5-String Fretted, UltraBlack
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Just purchased this bass guitar from Lightwave Systems via amazon.com and wanted to give a quick review of this instrument. First, the action on this bass is just right and the weight is super light - which will make good for those long gigs. As for the sound: well I can't say enough about how clear this bass sounds. I personally did not want to go full over with the optical pickups, so I opted for the hybrid bass instead. I am considering buying an all optical fretless for the future now that I have heard this thing up close and personal. As a bonus the bass came with a really nice soft case - I wish I would have known this before I bought a hard case - but I guess now I have two cases. My only suggestion would be that they do a better job on the manual; although the bass it not too difficult to use or understand... I basically plugged it in and it can crank out a nice loud, clear, articulate sound. Thanks.

Dean Edge 8-String Bass, Active Electronics, Classic Black Review

Dean Edge 8-String Bass, Active Electronics, Classic Black
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
So, I decided to buy an 8-string and learn how to play it, since I was already uver-used to playing the 4-string. You know,I wanted that high-end dominance that the 8-string provides.
This bass does all of that, and has active pickups to boot. Not that they are particularly the best active pickups (the battery dies out a little early for my tastes), but they get the job done - and can blast the hell out of a sound system with an impressive overdrive knob.
The tone is really good, by all means. Unlike the Schecter Stilletto 8, the first few frets don't buzz when you use them, and the thing maintains the octave-harmonics effect even when you use tapping or slapping effects. The strings feel really good on the fingers, and it's no problem to slide while keeping an even sound. The only problem I have is that, if one tries to use an octave string alone, it will not sound off as highly as the fat strings, which makes it a little less fun.
I would say that this is a worthwhile buy for those just starting on the 8-string, because it is reliable, has one of the best sound-qualities, and fits a good budget at $500.

ESP LTD B55 5 String Electric Bass Guitar (Black) Review

The title says it all - this bass unleashes the subsonic sickness! It has features that I never see on a bass in this price range, such as active EQ, two pickups, and 5 strings. If you're looking for a cheap throw-around bass that also delivers studio- and stage-ready performance, this is it. It's practically a steal!

Steinberger Spirit XT-2 Standard Bass Guitar Black Review

Steinberger Spirit XT-2 Standard Bass Guitar Black
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I travel on the road alot for my job...After hanging up my weekend musician career, I wanted to keep my chops alive. Bringing along my regular basses along wasn't an option due to space limitations and the risk of structural damage to the instruments.
What I found in the Steinberger Spirit XT-2 is a really well made and fully functional bass guitar..A neck thru 3 laminate hard maple structure means solid durability, great sustain and exceptional tone...A rosewood fretboard topped with 24 nickel frets makes for very low and smooth, fast action....The neck feel is a cross somewhere between a Rickenbacker 4001 and a Hofner 500/1 Beatle bass...The dual passive soapbar pickups provide a wide range of sound, offering up plenty of punch and growl, as well as balanced highs and lows....Controls include 2 volumes and 1 tone. I usually plug into a SANSAMP Bass DI (which offers up great preshaping prior to my bass rig...eliminating the need for active electronics)
My string preference is GHS stainless steel strings 40-102..A major improvement over the stock nickel strings, as they have a brighter sound for clearer highs and solid tighter lows.....Resulting in an even better sounding bass... Plus I find that stainless strings have a much longer life than nickel strings, due to the fact they resist corrosion from skin acids.
Visually very similar to the original Steinberger XL bass....aside from the previous graphite construction (I actually prefer the maple...for it's warm, sonic qualities)...The weight is substantial considering its compact size...
I really must compliment the makers on the high gloss black paint job.....beautiful and flawless.
If I were to improve on anything...The use of stainless steel jaws and adjuster screws for the bridge (this would greatly improve tuning and tone and are much more durable and longer lasting than regular steel) and a stainless string holder for the headstock...equipped with built in set screws making it compatible with either single or double ball strings (this would be more increase sustain, sustain and string options)....Maybe Steinberger or the aftermarket geniuses can come up with these. Also, I would upgrade to Bartolini passive soapbars and Switchcraft pots and input jack....They are a major improvement over the stock equipment. As another upgrade, I would recommend an ebony fretboard....another big sound improvement.
After reading some negative reviews on this bass, I feel they are unfounded. I have played professionally since 1970 and have owned over 25 basses in my career, including a 75 Rickenbacker 4001; 67 Hofner 500/1; A number of early-late 1970's Fender Presicion and Jazz basses as well as Ovation, Teisco, Danelectro, Ibanez, Hohner and Conrad basses..and many more, So when I compare the feel of the neck ....This little bass can easily hold its own alongside any of them.....AND it's just plain fun to play.
Whether you are a beginner or a seasoned veteran....and you are looking for an affordable 1st bass or a portable, compact bass you can take anywhere...Look no further....This is a really awesome bass at a really great price.
The price is unbelievably low...considering what you get....It comes with a nice durable gigbag and for about $69, you can get a Steinberger hardshell case.
I purchased the bass off Amazon thru Music123.....and am very pleased with the folks there...I am a repeat customer and they are a keeper.....Always ready to meet your needs and go beyond the pack to make you smile.....The setup was perfect...Nice low action....I highly recommend "Music123" for all your music needs.
