Dean SplitTail Standard Electric Guitar with Case (Metallic Silver Review

Dean SplitTail Standard Electric Guitar with Case (Metallic Silver

When I chose this guitar, I did't have any big expectation. I was just looking for mid-priced guitar and ready to take in-shop testing because I know how risky to buy musical instrument without testing with my own hands. Just for reference, I searched at "amazon.com" and met this guitar. There were several merits; huge discount (however, I never believe MSRP), relatively good hardwares (although I did not have information or experience for Time capsule pickups)and free hard shell case (always over $100)and so on; and I finally purchased it
Although it's alsolutely not a professional high-end guitar compared to several thousand bucks guitar, it's relatively well-crafted, flawless and well-balanced in sound. Neck was comfortable to play even better than my friend's Ibanez at least for me. I thought Mahogany body would be very heavy but it was very lighter than my expectation. Because of relatively heavier headstock, I always have to fix my left hand to hold guitar in standing-up playing and this still bothers me a little bit. Time capsule pickup was more than expectation. It was powerful enough in bridge and very fancy and round-shaped sound in neck. I enjoy to play a little bit old-styled hard music such as Metallica in 1980's and this guitar also makes very good sounds for them. In addition, sustain was incredibly long and going forever!! Hard shell case really came together and quality is really good.
I did't have any experinece for Dean guitar before this one and this deal gave me a good impression for this company (price and quality). If you're enjoying various heavy metal music, I think this guitar can make various sounds for you. If you're also looking for mid-priced guitar with good quality under $600~700, this guitar may be one of good choice. I really like this guitar!!!

Dean Exotica Quilted Ash Acoustic-Electric Cutaway Guitar with Tuner Preamp Review

Dean Exotica Quilted Ash Acoustic-Electric Cutaway Guitar with Tuner Preamp
Average Reviews:

I've been playing for about 15 years and this is the 6th acoustic I've owned after Epiphone, Fender, Aria, Johnson, Jasmine and this is definitely the best. It has a very smooth sound, plays very comfortably. The built in tuner is nice, but it's not a great tuner. I wouldn't recommend using it before recording or playing live, but it gets you close enough if you're just playing. The built in EQ is fair, but like the tuner isn't the best.
Thats the only drawbacks so far - the electronic element. It also includes a XLR input for going right into a PA which is very handy. The guitar itself is great. Picked it up from Guitar Center for $350 about 6 months ago and it's definitely worth it. It stays in tune after hours of playing which is very nice. Dean never impressed me with their electrics, but I would definitely buy an acoustic from them again.

Krankenstein Plus 120-Watt Tube Guitar Head with Black Grill Review

Krankenstein Plus 120-Watt Tube Guitar Head with Black Grill

It took me a lot of experimenting to get the sounds I wanted, which is similar to Fear Factory or Brujeria. After reading through several forums I was able to dial in a good chunky tone. The klean channel doesn't get much use because turning down the volume of the guitar on the high gain channel gives me the clean sounds I want.

Dean Tradition Acoustic Guitar, Exotic Birds Eye Maple Review

Dean Tradition Acoustic Guitar, Exotic Birds Eye Maple
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have been playing my "Dean Tradition Acoustic Guitar, Exotic Birds Eye Maple" ever since I received it this evening; I've taken a break to upload some pictures and write an initial review.
It is a very attractive instrument...well-constructed with nice details...and has decent action & volume...its pitch is somewhat bright, which I like, as it provides a contrast to my warmer cedar-top Seagull.
Here are Dean's specifications, directly from their web site:
"TRADITION EXOTIC
* Solid Spruce Top
* 5 Body Types Available (see below)
* 25-1/2" Scale
* Mahogany Neck
* Rosewood Fingerboard
* Pearl Dot Inlays
* Sealed Die Cast Tuners
* Celluloid Binding
* Woodcut Mosaic Rosette
* Finishes: Birds Eye Maple, Mapa Burl, Lacewood, Zebra, Quilted Ash"
I believe that the Birds Eye Maple covering the sides/back is a veneer over a mahogany underlayment.
Generally, the guitar was finished with good attention to detail: the only undesireable things that stood out to me [but were not 'deal-breakers' and may not matter as much to other folks] are:
* a few flecks & chips of wood embedded in the gloss finish
* the veneer is not aligned well [ie, the Birds Eye pattern is not matched up closely on the sides...I'm posting a photo to explain better].
* of more importance...at least, to me, since I initially ordered my guitar based on Amazon's "Product Features," which, as of this writing states "Machine Heads: Grover"...is that this guitar DOES NOT have "Grover" machine heads. It apparently has ones made by "Ping" [this is what I was told when I contacted Dean...and I also asked them why more than one website says "Grover" but they couldn't tell me]. If anyone is really hankering for Grovers, they'll probably have to plan on spending at least $50 to upgrade...just an FYI.
My pictures that I uploaded to the gallery will tell the rest of the story...excuse me while I get back to playing my new baby ;-)

Dean Performer Mini Jumbo Acoustic-Electric Cutaway Guitar with Tuner Preamp Trans Purple Review

Dean Performer Mini Jumbo Acoustic-Electric Cutaway Guitar with Tuner Preamp Trans Purple

It sounds really good for its price. You won't regret buying this as your first guitar. But you won't really appreciate its sounds for the price, unless you've had several guitars before. Don't fall in love with the purple in the picture, though. I did and I was disappointed. But if you want an affordable, great sounding, purplish guitar, this is a definite buy.

Dean Michael Batio Guitar, Armored Flame Graphic with Case Review

Dean Michael Batio Guitar, Armored Flame Graphic with Case
Average Reviews:

Alder body and neck, ebony fretboard, big square abalone inlays, reasonably light, excellent build, finish is impeccable, not one tiny spot of paint missing or misplaced, which is quite a feat for such a complex paintjob. And what a paintjob ! no one is indifferent to its design and armored flame graphics ! I personally love it, agressive, unusual, and the amount of detail is impressive !
Dean MAB1 comes with Floyd Rose original bridge and tuning locks, in chrome, top quality items, made to endure years of abuse, and with chrome tremolo. Tuners are Grover, also known to be excellent, and this guitar has 3 pick-ups, in HSH (humbucker-single-humbucker) configuration, with 5-position selector for flexibility (Bridge, Bridge+Middle, Middle, Middle+Neck, Neck). The Bridge humbucker is a EMG-81, a classic, active high-gain pick-up widely used for lead sounds in Rock and Metal. The middle single pick-up is a EMG SA, very clean with Strat-like sounds. The neck humbucker is a EMG-85, another classic, very warm sounds, full of middle, great for rhythm guitar playing. If you play Rock, Hard Rock or Metal, this configuration is hard to beat ! Top-quality and great-sounding !
I ordered it from Amazon despite the other review, however fortunately my Dean MAB1 arrived perfectly set-up and playable right out of the box ! Action is reasonably low, and neck finish is smooth, both summing up to high playability.
I have it for a month now, playing every day (not for long periods though since music is not my professional activity, far from it), and it is still in tune !
A few things I don't like : the jack for the 1/4" guitar cable is in a weird position, but fortunately it doesn't really disturbs too much; the pins for the strap are also a bit different from what I am used to, and did not fit very well with my strap, but this is manageable, just got a new strap, as long as the guitar is safe and does not fall ! 8-O
Not a cheap guitar, but a lot of value for the money, with fantastic sound, top-of-the-line components, and great build. Should last a lifetime, and I will review it again here if it doesn't ! ;-)
