(More customer reviews)I got this guitar just over a month ago and she's the only guitar I've played since. My PRS Custom 24 (!), Fender Strat, Gibson Les Paul Custom, Composite Acoustics Player, and other sundry guitars are jealously gathering dust. I never thought I'd say this, but this Taylor T5 Classic is the only axe I really need. She has more than enough beautiful tones for my style (Folk, Rock, Blooze, R&B, and some Jazz). Whether in her "acoustic" or humbucker modes, the tones are full, bright, sweet and mellow (or raucous), and just uniquely well-rounded. Through my acoustic amplifier she closely approximates and effectively passes for a nice albeit a uniquely voiced dreadnought. With overdrive and/or distortion she can scream, growl, and wail through Heavy Rock, Metal, or the hottest Blooze. Ovangkol is apparently a marvelous tonewood and Taylor knows how to get the most out of it. She even sounds great unplugged - plenty loud enough for casual practice. Her fit and finish are superb, and her general looks are extremely handsome also. All who have seen her are awestruck at the variegated nature of the Ovangkol top. They've not seen anything like her.
However - the best characteristic of this guitar is the way she plays. Her neck is uber smooth, fast, forgiving, and easier to play than even my Strat. She is truly a pleasure to play and is super-responsive to the lightest touch. No adjustments of any kind (except for tuning, of course) were necessary after I pulled her out of the box. She stays in tune pretty well, and -- she's just the finest guitar I have ever played irrespective of price or brand.
As I mentioned, I have some fine, gorgeous, high-quality guitars. I have quite a lot of effects pedals of various kinds to modify them. Since receiving the Taylor T5, I've played her with only a wah pedal and amp distortion at most, and that's all I need. I knew Taylor made good stuff and expected this to be a great, versatile guitar, and all of my expectations have been exceeded. Is the Taylor T5 darn-near perfect? For me -- oh yeah!
