Gibson Les Paul Traditional Plus Electric Guitar, Heritage Cherry Sunburst Review

Gibson Les Paul Traditional Plus Electric Guitar, Heritage Cherry Sunburst
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have the Iced Tea burst finish which, to me, looks very similar as to what is pictured here. I bought my Les Paul in 2009 and the Traditional was one of the only models at that time that was not chambered (i.e. the body is a solid block of wood). The 57 pickups are amazing and when combined with the nice solid body give you a great warm tone. The only modification that I have made to my Les Paul is to have a bone nut installed and the tuners changed. The bone nut helps keep the strings from binding and add to the tone a little. The tuners probably could have stayed after I changed the nut, but they make some very good "aged" locking tuners (I used Grover) to give the guitar a nice vintage look. I can not emphasize enough how important the PLEK system is to giving you an absolutely perfect fret dress and straight neck. I have all of my gigging guitars plecked by Joe Glaser in Nashville, and afterwards you can drop the action down to about nothing. It makes the guitar very, very playable without any buzzing at all. I know that most guitarists feel that the days of getting a decent instrument out of a major manufacturer are long past, but I have to say that I would not trade my Les Paul Traditional for a "vintage" model unless it was to sell it and then use the money to buy another Traditional and a private jet to get to the gigs faster.

I still have multiple UHF & VHF units, and have used wireless guitar transmitters since the 80's. This is the 1st time I don't lose any tone. The transmitter is solid and the range is fine. I have moved around, and through certain walls, etc, you can lose the signal for spurts if you really try. But for any gig or performance, I trust it. It has completely taken over as my ONLY wireless I will gig with.

Dean Vendetta 4.0 Electric Guitar with Floyd Rose, Quilt Top, Trans Black Review

Dean Vendetta 4.0 Electric Guitar with Floyd Rose, Quilt Top, Trans Black

Its got a great metal tone and well built. The very first day I pulled off a string and while restringing I was not able to unscrew the saddle srews which were jammed into the saddle blocks. I tried losening the studs and the spring came aff along with the entire bridge....but I fixed it up!...thanks to all the proper allen keys that came with it! Still I was not able to unscrew the saddle screws. I had to bend the metal plates below the saddle screw and then apply sheer force(with the risk of breaking the sadle blocks!)..and was finally able to open it and restring. An adventurous experience to start with.
If you face similar problem dont try this...instead ....provided you have patience unlike me ....immerse the the entire bridge in oil for a couple of days.
Finally, coming to the guitar...neck is pretty narrow..actually the kind I like...not good for those who look for wide neck with space. The floyd rose and locking system is ok. Its comparatively light and 'sleek'. The body looks solid. Its got a classy metal tone. The pickups are good but not the best..not sure if its Timecapsule or just stock dean pickups...pinch harmonics can take quite a bit of concentration and sustain is not as good as les pauls etc. Having said that...surprisingly, it can also be used for country songs...not sure about blues though. Overall it works for me and at this price its definitely a deal.Should be good for gigs and home recording.

This amp produces the bottom and tone I've been looking for since I used an 18-inch Kustom in the 70s. It has HUGE bottom end and the crispest highs I have ever seen in a bass amplifier. I've used several models of Fender, Peavey, Kustom, and Crate, but the GK MB115 is the only one that completely satisfies what I want with its tonal variations. It's also super lightweight and very well constructed. My only suggestion is that GK build in a tuner and turn the XLR output around. Super amp!!

I just played this Epiphone Model EL-00 for the first time. A great looker, and the best neck action that I've seen at this price, ever. It has a narrow neck, fast action, and a beautiful tone. I suggest you play one first, of course, and see what you think. Well worth a demo. Great choice for beginner to intermediate.

If you are a huge Megadeth fan this guitar is a BIG peace of art, the neck is very confortable and it isn't heavy as a les paul which makes it a great guitar for hours of practicing and playing.
The pick ups have a strong output signal with a great Mustaine tone, and the deluxe hard case for this guitar brings a good protection for the instrument.

when i started playing, since i am pretty good, i could not help but notice that a large bat like creature flew around the room and threatened to kill me. It must have been the notorious death bat but it only comes out when i shred on the guitar so dont get it if you want a playable guitar...

Here's a more affordable version of the Synyster Gates Custom. This features the same wicked looks of the Avenged Sevenfold guitarist's signature model, but with a few different components, such as a bolt-on mahogany neck rather than a set neck, a rosewood fretboard in place of ebony, and Duncan HB-108 humbuckers rather than the custom Invaders on the Custom model. You still get the "SYN" and DeathBat inlays, a Floyd Rose tremolo, and the awesome gloss black finish with silver pinstripes.

Mahogany Neck and Body with "Synyster" Looks This guitar delivers warm, defined tone and a ton of sustain, featuring a 25.5-inch scale mahogany neck and mahogany body.
The fast rosewood fretboard boasts 24 jumbo frets, and Schecter's 'Ultra Access' cutaway means you can reach those ultra-high notes with ease.
As for looks, this axe has plenty. The Hellraiser body shape is a long-time winner. The black finish and silver pinstripes are both killer and classy, with black hardware and binding to top it off. Custom "SYN" inlays and the the "Deathbat" at the 12th fret make it even better, for a unique and striking instrument.
Duncan Designed HB-108 Detonators Based on Seymour Duncan SH-8 Invaders, HB-108s are called Detonators for a reason. These are ultra-high-output humbuckers, built specifically for the aggressive playing styles in punk, metal and other genres.
A three-way switch selects between pickups, and the coil-tap on the tone knob lets you switch to a single coil sound.
Floyd Rose Tremolo System The patented and often imitated double-locking design of the Floyd Rose Tremolo System allows you to lock your guitar in tune at the nut and at the bridge. Engineered like no other tremolo system, the Floyd's high-quality steel parts are manufactured to exacting specifications. Beat it up as much as you want--from traditional vibrato to dive bombing leads or flapping loose strings, and stay in tune while you do it.
Black Hardware Black hardware completes this axe's looks, from the volume/tone knobs to the grover tuners and aforementioned Floyd Rose.

Recording King Classic Series I OOO-Style Acoustic Guitar (Mahogany) Review

Recording King Classic Series I OOO-Style Acoustic Guitar (Mahogany)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Every now and then something comes along that surprises you and makes you smile. This guitar will do that. I'm a 51 year old guitar player and I've played in dance bands since the mid 70's. I like the saying "One can never have too many guitars". I have about a dozen or so and about half of them are big name 2500+ models. I wanted a 000 size to leave out so I could pick it up anytime inspiration strikes. Finding a decent guitar for not alot of money is tough, then trying to find it online without hearing it is a real task. I searched all over and finally clicked on this one.
It arrived double boxed in great shape. I took it out and tuned it up and it sounded great. Mine came with a hang tag stating it was strung with D'Addario strings which are my favorite. The tuners are nice and smooth, after the strings settled in it is holding tune very well. I was impressed that this model cam with a bone nut and saddle. This is very important for a good tone. Most lesser expensive models come with plastic, Yuck! This guitar also has a slightly wider neck, perfect for larger hands, like mine, finger picking and strumming. Its not so wide that it feels like a 2x4 in your hand though. My nephew played it, he has small hands and he loved it. The volume is suprising, I would not have thought that a smaller guitar would produce this much volume. It has decent bass for a 000 size, mid range and highs sound beautiful. The finish is beautiful, dark Mahogany back and sides and a natural solid spruce top. A solid top is very important for good tone. The neck is nice and smooth. Some of the dark color on the fret board is comming off on my finger tips after a playing session but it washes right off. The setup on mine is great. I'm picky on setup. I like low action and usually have to have a new guitar set up. I don't plan on changing anything on this one. I does not have any dots or markers on the fretboard. It has position markers on the neck. If you like to watch the fretboard to know where you are this may take a little getting used to, but after a little playtime you won't need the fretboard markers anymore. No pickgard, if it matters to you, I think it looks better without one.
In conclusion: Great sounding, small bodied, easy playing, excellent choice for a parlor guitar, starter guitar, travel, campfire singing. In the 100-500 dollar range I would rank this guitar near the top of the list.

Fender Super Champ XD Electric Guitar Amplifier Review

Fender Super Champ XD Electric Guitar Amplifier
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Fender finally did it, designed and built the best practice amp in the world. Bear in mind, the cynic in me usually tempers hyperbole about products. In any case, this amp sounds great regardless of what's driving it; I currently play a Gibson ES-175D, an Epiphone Sheraton, and a Yamaha Pacifica equipped with Kinman pickups. (I soon hope to get another Stratocaster, and install my Kinmans it it, but I digress.)
Like a tube amp should, and like *no* solid state amp can, the Super Champ XD responds dynamically to varying pick attack. In addition, all of it's emulations sound more convincing *because* it's a tube amp.
Re. the emulations, to my ears, the "Blackface" mode sounds most convincing of all, very Stevie Ray, especially in Voice Position 6. The "Tweed" emulation sounds equally convincing, but I'm not as big a fan of that, somewhat darker tonality. The "British" emulations sound like a cross between Marshall and Vox, not quite either, but a compromise between the two. The "Hot Rod" emulation sounds quite a bit like a Mesa Boogie, and I'm sure a PRS or Les Paul player can pretend to be Carlos, accordingly. I have yet to play around much with the "Metal", "Jazz", or "Acoustic" emulations.
Emulations aside, I think what makes this amp sound so good, is the speaker. Apparently, some reviewers at harmonycentral.com and musiciansfriend.com seem to disagree, but I think the speaker makes this amp sound *huge*, even at low volumes. In fact, I dare say it sounds as big and punchy as the Bandmaster I used to own, many years ago.

Epiphone LP Standard Plus-Top Les Paul Collection Electric Guitar, Vintage Sunburst Review

Epiphone LP Standard Plus-Top Les Paul Collection Electric Guitar, Vintage Sunburst

I purchased mine from Guitar Center about a year ago. Guitar is simply beautiful. For my money there has never been a nicer looking guitar than the Les Paul, it just screams classic rock. Very comfortable to play, it isn't a Gibson, but most players don't have the money to purchase a Gibson when they are first starting.
The only minor complaint being the stock pick-ups are little muddy. I added a couple of Seymour Duncan humbuckers and had the action lowered which greatly improved the sound and ease of playing. Play this guitar through a Line 6 Flextone and you can have really good tone for under a grand.

I have had this guitar for a little over a month now. I have played one live show with it, and have recorded two songs in my studio with it. It is working like a champ. I have not really used the tuner, so I can't comment on it, but the sound is great. It's hard to find a classical guitar with a solid wood top (not plywood) that also has the electronics and cutaway for this price. I would recommend it to anyone. (I have played guitar for 15 years, and have owned several previous guitars).

Line 6 Relay G90 Relay G90 Pro Rack-mountable Wireless Guitar System Review

Line 6 Relay G90 Relay G90 Pro Rack-mountable Wireless Guitar System
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is a first-class product with some user-unfriendly things about it. Functionally, I couldn't be happier. The manual that came with the unit, however, was lacking in completion. This often occurs when "rush to ship" during the manufacturing process is ahead of the tech writers. However, having an RF background, I could figure out where the 50-ohm loads should be applied. (Very nice little 50-ohm BNC loads, by the way. Very pleasing.) Online, the manual was found through another website and Revision F still contained an error on about page 5 that says: "Press CHANNEL SELECT button, then press the SELECT button." This was intended to be instructions as to how to display all available channels. I just corrected the manual by writing in "SETUP" for the word "SELECT". If you already have this unit, you've probably figured this out on your own. As I said, this unit has great features and is worth the cost, in my opinion, IF you can accept certain weaknesses (covered later). The receiver/transmitter range is very, very good and not so much as a single bit of noise or co-channel interference is evident. The fact that I live within 1/4 mile of a NASA rocket telemetry installation operating high RF levels in the 2-6 GHz frequency range was a concern before I received and tested this unit's operation. Not a problem. That was a relief and my kudos to the LINE6 designer team. However, there are a couple of concerns I have. One solvable, one not.
1. (Solvable) The transmitter comes with the instrument cable with a standard 1/4-inch plug for your guitar. The other end has a very, very unique male multi-pin, mini connector that you won't find at any Radio Shack, that's for sure. Though the cable is well constructed, and even though I repaired almost every cable type known to man (humbly stated), this is not a repair I'd want to do during intermission at a gig. Since we all know that 90% of problems we have during performances are related to cable problems, it makes sense to have spares. This unit does NOT come with a spare cable. IT SHOULD for the price class of the unit. At the very least, LINE 6 should include information about connector part numbers, spare parts, etc so the consumer can have options. IT DOESN'T. You'll find yourself going blue in the face if this cable goes bad. Believe me, it is the weak link and WILL be the first thing to likely fail on you. Good luck unless you purchase a spare. I hesitate to ruin the fun I'm having with this unit by looking up the LINE 6 price for this cable. (If you don't anticipate certain types of system or cable problems, you'll all-of-a-sudden find yourself only able to play the cow bell or tamberine at the gig!) I know that the following solution is not part of the review but if you can see a solution, perhaps the problem won't be a big obstacle for you to buy this unit. Anyway, I minimized this almost certain cable failure (depending on how much you use it) by building a "pig tail" cable that mates with the transmitter cable. I put an inline female 1/4" connector on one end (to mate with the transmitter's instrument plug) and on the other end, I put a 90-degree, 1/4-inch instrument connector. The 90-degree works better with my Jazz Bass than the straight connector that comes with the transmitter anyway. Finally, I bundled the transmitter's cable neatly and tie-wrapped it to the belt clip. I never liked the idea of clipping the unit to my belt anyway. The transmitter is powerful enough to go through walls (I tested that) so, being in my pocket makes no difference in the receiver's strength display - NO difference. I tested that theory to 75 feet with not one iota of noise or signal problem. With this setup, the transmitter's cable will NEVER flex and I won't incur the cost and frustration of repairing it prematurely. The cable I built takes all the punishment but is replaceable for about 5 bucks. I'd hate to even look at LINE6's price for that cable based upon the transmitter's replacement cost. This leads me to problem 2, which has no solution.
2. (Unsolvable) I was really enjoying my new setup until I made the mistake of looking up the cost of a spare TBP12 Transmitter that comes with this unit. Accidents happen. Rain happens. #%&^ happens. The price was an astounding $199 !! ANNOYING to say the least. Add shipping and you've paid about half the cost of a complete new system. Before I spend $199 for just the transmitter, I'd buy the whole system and then sell the main unit which is less likely to fail because you can't drop it onto the stage.
Overall, I give this unit's operation, quality, design, mounting (rack), controls, back panel, and overall appearance 5-stars. For the high cost of replacement items, I recommend purchasing this only if you can afford to support it and from a maintainability perspective, I give this 2-stars. The average is 3.5 stars and that's an honest review. If the replacement transmitter were in the $100 maximum (only with proof of original purchase) and if the product had included a spare instrument cable, then for the overall price and operation of the unit, I would have given it 5-stars. So, you decide what is important to you and extract the rating which pertains. Good luck. Regardless, you will surely enjoy this unit right out of the box. Of that, I am sure. Oh, yes, one final comment about the unit's feature of simulating the effects of instrument cables. Since using this unit means that you only have a couple of feet of cable between your guitar and the transmitter, you won't have the high frequency rolloff that accompanys ALL cables. (If you bought a cable claiming it has no frequency loss and no inline capacitance, you bought a pig in a poke. There is no such animal. But that's for another day.) Now, LINE 6 recognizes that people may not like the "brighter" sound resulting from lack of a lengthy instrument cable. So, they cleverly add internal, selectable frequency attenuation presented to the user in units of cable length. So, for example, you can choose from about 6 to 10 different cable simulations from 3 feet up to 125 feet. As the length increases, so does the amount of high-frequency attenuation (rolloff). (For my Jazz Bass, I disable this feature (zero cable length) so I get a nice brighter tone if I wish. I use the guitar's tone control to reduce that if needed.) That's about it. I'm uncomfortable not having "spare parts" because Murphy is always lurking. People I asked about wireless systems often times have owned them in the past but went back to straight cables; not because the wireless systems weren't nice but because they had cable problems or transmitters got wet, etc. It is an expensive "cable substitute" but with the availability of spare parts and lower costs of replacement components, these systems could become mainstream and we'd actually use additional RELAY units in our stage racks. Rock on!

Squier by Fender Black and Chrome Standard Stratocaster HSS Rosewood, Black w/ Mirrored Pickguard
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Okay, this is the first electric guitar I ever bought, it was some years ago, and I was excited.
Over the years, it got pretty worn down.
It is a nice guitar, everybody loves the pickguard, but the pickguard will get scratched up and be kinda ugly.
The pickups aren't bad, factory strings aren't either, but you have to upgrade the strings sometime.
It has a nice sound, nice paintjob, I wouldn't recommend any really insane wammies, it'll bend the neck, but it has an adjustable truss bar, which is nice.
Overall, nice guitar, I would recommend getting something in the price range that is better, though, maybe a used B.C. Rich ASM standard.
