Gibson SG '61 Reissue Electric Guitar Heritage Cherry Review

What an awesome Guitar! This guitar is good for beginners and advanced players. This looks really nice and is perfect for showing off! The Gibson's strings are very sensitive to touch so it doesn't need a firm grip. The only thing that is bad about this guitar is that it scratches and dents very easy. Other than that this guitar is perfect so start saving up. This is in fact the first guitar the young Jimmy Hendrix ever had (except less old and different color....du'h)!

Gibson SG Special 60s Tribute Electric Guitar, Worn Ebony Review

Gibson SG Special 60s Tribute Electric Guitar, Worn Ebony

Having gotten it this week from Musicians Friend - in like 3 days - I can offer first impressions.
a) Closely observed, there's less finish on it than I thought there would be. The thin coat of white finish barely covers the raw wood. Yet a couple of feet away from the guitar the look is workmanlike and OK. b) Love the Gibson tuners! c) Action is reasonably low and fast. Wonder if I can tweak it a bit lower without adding fret buzz?
c) Frets seem nicely seated. But they are noticeable along the outside edge of the fretboard. d) Pickup switch does not seat quite solidly in the treble position. Middle and Rhythm positions are fine.
e) The pickguard seemed somewhat scratched in a reflective light. There was no stick-on plastic protection on it. I think it is simply one very cheap piece of plastic. f) Light as a bird. That's important to me. g) Neck is pleasingly slim. h) Love the fret access up past the 15th fret.
i) P-90s have almost as much power and sustain as humbuckers. The bridge pickup is a bit darker in sound than I'd expected. Punched up the treble a bit on the Blues Junior amp and all is good. j) Input jack clicks solidly.
Overall, a keeper. I think time spent playing her will bring us even closer together.
Ps: Epiphone hardshell case seems a good fit and of good quality; happy to have it because Gibson necks are vulnerable.

What do Pete Townshend, Carlos Santana, and Tony Iommi all have in common? Back in the '60s, each of these legendary guitarists played a Gibson SG Special with P-90 pickupsand made music history in the process. To bring this beloved rocker back to guitarists in the 21st century, Gibson USA introduces the SG Special '60s Tribute, a guitar that honors the beloved SG Specials of nearly 50 years ago, in an instrument primed with the tone, versatility, and playability demanded by modern musicians.Since its arrival on the scene in 1961 (originally as the Les Paul/SG Special), Gibson's dual-horned, double-cutaway SG has been an iconic rock axe, and has become known for solid performance and tonal versatility that is unparalleled in the guitar world. The SG Special '60s Tribute is based around the same revered tonewoods, glued-in neck, and Alnico-magnet P-90 pickups that made its predecessor legendary, with the same SlimTaper '60s neck profile that is behind some of the fastest-playing guitars in history. Stripped-down and ready for business, the SG Special '60s Tribute has the look and feel of a well-played friend right out of the gigbag, and comes in at a price that any hard working player can well and truly afford!

Gibson SG Classic Faded Electric Guitar Worn Cherry Review

American made Gibson SG with P-90's bound fretboard and real Gibson logo for less than 700 bucks? Couldn't pass it up and for the last month my other guitars have collected dust. It's so lightweight I can play for hours. The P-90's growl and sound great on both rhythm and lead. I love to overdrive them with fuzz...gnarly dude :) This guitar will only go up in value IMO! Late.

Epiphone SG EG-1275 Custom-Set Neck Electric Guitar, Cherry Review

If you are a Led-Zep Fan and a guitar player, this is the guitar for you. The Gibson version of this guitar was played by Page on the live versions of "Stairway to Heaven" and "The Song Remains The Same". I played this model in a local music store about a year ago and I really liked it. This one is also much cheaper than the Gibson version although the quality is not as good. also I'm pretty sure it has bolt-on necks instead of "neck through body", but for the price this can be overlooked. Lots of fun.

Gibson SG Standard Electric Guitar, Ebony - Chrome Hardware Left Handed Review

Gibson SG Standard Electric Guitar, Ebony - Chrome Hardware Left Handed

I am 36 years old and have been playing guitar since I was 18. I've been playing the Gibson sg series for 10 of those years. Of course, I own a Fender Strat, a Washburn and an Ibanez as well, nothing beats the sound and feel of a Gibson. This guitar is geared for some serious rock and roll and metal. Gibson uses the best wood, the best pick ups, and the best electronics. The black finish shines like a brand new sports car and I love the inlays on the fret board. The neck has a very good feel and plays quickly for me. I really love this guitar and I'm sure you will as well.

Gibson's best-selling SG Standard shatters all perceptions of what an electric guitar can--and should--be. The slim, lightweight mahogany body; unmistakable twin cutaways, pointed horns and beveled edges; the fastest neck in the business; a pair of Gibson's screamin' humbucker pickups--all irresistible features coveted by some of the greatest guitar players of all-time. Various SG models have been played on-stage by the likes of Pete Townshend, Angus Young, Tony Iommi, Robby Krieger, Chris Robinson, Alex Lifeson, Derek Trucks, Elliot Easton, Jim James, Jeff Tweedy, Moby, Keith Urban, Nick Jonas, Rocco DeLuca. When will you add your name?

Solid Mahogany Body
Probably the most central of all SG features is its solid mahogany body. The mahogany goes through the same rigorous selection process as all of Gibson's woods, and is personally inspected and qualified by Gibson's team of skilled wood experts before it enters the factories. Inside the Gibson factories, humidity is maintained at 45 percent, and the temperature at 70 degrees. This ensures all woods are dried to a level of "equilibrium," where the moisture content does not change during the manufacturing process. This guarantees tight-fitting joints and no expansion, and controls the shrinkage and warping of the woods, in addition to reducing the weight. It also improves the woods' machinability and finishing properties. Consistent moisture content means that the SG will respond evenly to temperature and humidity changes long after it leaves the factory.
Gibson's 490R and 498T pickups give you the tonal characteristics of an original PAF, but with a slight increase in upper mid-range response.
