Mackie Onyx Blackbird Premium 16x16 FireWire Recording Interface with Tracktion 3 Music Production Software Review

Mackie Onyx Blackbird Premium 16x16 FireWire Recording Interface with Tracktion 3 Music Production Software

For Windows 7 and Windows 64-bit users of any type, I've purchased several pieces of Mackie Onyx gear for a Windows 64 bit environment, and found Mackie's driver support to be non-existent. Check around user boards before you buy any of this Mackie stuff. Everyone is very unhappy. Mackie has no response whatsoever, and is ignoring repeated requests for 64-bit Windows driver support. This goes for Firewire as well as USB interfaces

Edirol by Roland UA-25EX Audio 2 Channel Interface Review

Edirol by Roland UA-25EX Audio 2 Channel Interface
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This product is compatible with Windows 7 64-bit. Seems to be working fine for me. You do need to download the Windows 7 drivers from the Roland website (they are not included on the packaged CD) but it works great. I haven't put it through all its paces yet, but the setup was a breeze, the sound is crystal clear in both recording and playback, and I'm not getting any pops or dropouts.
I got this to replace my old Tascam US-122 because they weren't staying current with drivers and it was wonky under Vista and totally unusable under Windows 7, so Windows 7 compatibility was really important for me.

Giannini GBSM3 EL Brazil Series Mandolin (Electric) Review

Giannini GBSM3 EL Brazil Series Mandolin (Electric)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I just received this mandolin (bandolim) tonight, so these are first impressions. The instrument I received was not a Giannini GBSM3 EL (Electric) as listed, but a GBSM3 X (Non-electric). I am in the process of exchanging or returning it, but will make a few observations on the instrument at hand. Overall, for the price I paid, this instrument is a good beater or starter mandolin. The woods are very pretty (sitka spruce top, Bolivian rosewood back and sides, lovely binding and inlay), and the fit and finish are well above what one would usually find at this price. Its intonation is pretty good and it sounds fairly loud, resonant, and ringing. The Devon tuners seem cheap but they work OK. The string hooks on the tailpiece are sharp and indeed one of the E strings broke at the loop end before I had brought it all the way up to pitch (It broke at C#). The strings are very light gauge, 10-14-23-30. The action (string height) is a little high, but OK with such light strings. The mandolin has a zero fret about ¼ inch from the nut. The string slots in the nut are all deeply cut without regard to string diameter, but the presence of the zero fret keeps this from negatively affecting intonation. However, the string slots in the nut are improperly spaced, so that the string pairs are difficult to fret. The strings in each pair are not close enough together and the spacing between pairs is too close. The scale length from the nut to the bridge when the bridge is properly placed is 13.5 inches. The ends of the frets are smoothly finished on the E string side, but not on the G string side, and indeed the latter are sharp and jagged enough to catch one's skin. The neck is shallow and very comfortable to my small hand. The bridge is rosewood with a fixed metal saddle. Both the fretboard and the bridge are slightly radiused. The problems mentioned are correctable and this could be a very nice inexpensive mandolin with a new nut, new bridge, finished fret ends, and possibly a new tailpiece.

Yamaha MG166CX 16 Input 6 Bus Rack Mountable Mixer with Digital Effects Review

Yamaha MG166CX 16 Input 6 Bus Rack Mountable Mixer with Digital Effects

I bought this mixer to be used at small clubs and venues when I don't want to carry loads of stuff and for me it is perfect. The preamps, one knob compressors and effects sound really good, the sweepable mids on the EQ's are nice and the board has a very solid feel to it, for the price of this board you get alot of features.

Audix OM6 Song Writer Dynamic Vocal Microphone Review

Audix OM6 Song Writer Dynamic Vocal Microphone
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have had this mic for well over a year now, and I am thrilled with it.
In a live setting, this mic really helps vocals sit a little higher in the mix. In other words, I have noticed that my vocals come through in a more defined way that allows it to be heard over the music.
As for build quality, the mic is solid, sturdy, with a nice feel. (and while we are on the subject, she's pretty easy on the eyes as well... that counts too, right?)
I also have a modest home studio, and since I do not yet own a condenser mic, have used this mic to record vocals into Logic9 via the Apogee Duet. This thing sounds great in a recording capacity as well- and although I would love to record with a condenser, the Om6 dynamic is probably a better option anyway, since I don't have any kind of soundproofing in the room where I record. (Condensers pick up EVERYTHING... the neighbor's dog, traffic, the clock the wall... everything...)
Anyway, my impression, not being a "golden-eared" sound expert, is that this mic is true to my voice, and sounds natural. It also sounds nice recording my accoustic, and while I have played a little bit with hooking it up to the amp/electric, mostly I have recorded my guitar and vocals.
Finally, unlike other close contenders (the shure58 being one of them), this mic is made in Oregon, as opposed to being built overseas. I have also been told that should the mic get damaged in some way, Audix will replace the "innards" for a reasonable fee...
I am so impressed with this mic, that I will always look to Audix first when mic shopping. (And no, I don't work for Audix;)...I am merely impressed with the OM6, and want more folks to know... Great dynamic mic!
The bottom line is that both in a live and recording capacity, I am so glad to have this mic around.

Aguilar AG 500SC Bass Head Boss Brown Review

Aguilar AG 500SC Bass Head Boss Brown
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The Aguilar AG500SC is simply a fantastic bass amplifier, hands down. If you are looking for a warm, punchy, deep sound, you can't go wrong with Aguilar. It gets very loud, certainly loud enough for mid-size venues and cuts through a mix very well. The construction is VERY solid. I've never seen a more neatly and carefully wired machine in my life. And I really dig the aesthetics, with the rich brown color and simple, easily readable EQ and knob layout. Ultimately, I would rather have gone with the dual-channel model, but for the moment I just can't afford it. But trust me, there's not a hint of regret in my purchase. I am VERY happy with this amplifier.
Props also goes to Amazon, which has not only the best selection of Aguilar products (pretty much every model in every color combo under the sun), but also the best prices (and FREE shipping to boot). Delivery was quick and professional and I have had no problems with the product after purchase. Highly recommended!

Four bands of active EQ with bright and deep switches provide a variety of tones that can go from funk to rock to jazz. A flexible FX Loop and pure sounding D.I. are easily accessible on the front of this amp. Great features, tons of power and an affordable price make this amp a classic. This model in "Boss Brown". Looks great with Tweed cabinets. *Optional: Headcase or Carry bag
