(More customer reviews)Sorry you had a bad experience with NI and Kore, and I know it's not helpful but I haven't experienced any of the issues you did. It recognized all my Komplete 7 stuff after a plug-in install and database rescan (which took what felt like a day, but still it worked.) I can't comment on their tech support because frankly I have never needed it. The hardware could be a bit more solid, and it took some getting used to but it's a time saver once you get it down. Frankly I don't really think it's worth the extra money, and I'd get just the software version if I could go back in time.. unless you are just really into gadgets and flashy lights more than anything. Kore makes it so easy to tweak, edit, combine, and interface with the overwhelming # of sounds you get in the Komplete package, I can't imagine working without it.
Waves may be putting out good software-- as far as I know it's mostly effects, not virtual instruments and synths like Kore and Kontakt from NI.. and at $4,750 + the mercury package may be a steal but I'll never know. I'd rather eat and wear clothes. :)
