Gibson Faded Les Paul Special Electric Guitar with Humbuckers (with Gig Bag) (Worn Cherry) Review

Gibson Faded Les Paul Special Electric Guitar with Humbuckers (with Gig Bag) (Worn Cherry)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is simply a great guitar. While it doesn't have the sheen of a highly clear coated guitar, the warmth of the cherry finish along with the wood grain makes for one cool look. I don't know about the other fadeds, but this one has a relatively even finish.
The humbuckers are hot and the fingerboard is fast. I haven't experienced any string buzzing. I may tweak the action down a little though. If I were Gibson, the only thing I'd change is the back of the neck. Feels a little grainy because of the satin finish. Doesn't impede the playing...just takes some getting used to.
I play a regular gig and have decided to bench my strat in favor of the Les Paul. While it doesn't have a carved top and it may not be as pretty as a Les Paul Standard or Custom, this is a nice guitar for the money.

Warwick Thumb Bolt-On Neck Bass Guitar, ¹ Review

Warwick Thumb Bolt-On Neck Bass Guitar, andsup1;
Average Reviews:

This bass is superb. I have had plenty of bass guitars, but the Thumb is undeniably the best performing instrument I've owned. Recently having upgraded from the Warwick Corvette, to the Thumb, one major detail that can't be left unsaid, is the weight. The Thumb is noticeably light (especially compared to the heavy Corvette). Even while being on a much higher plain quality wise, this instrument manages to stay paper-light. Believe it or not, I am writing this review a whole four years after my initial purchasing of the Thumb. I am happy to say, over the course of the last four years, I have had ZERO major problems related to this instrument. I highly suggest this guitar for any serious musician, and/or bass enthusiast. Not to mention, you will be hard pressed to not catch some desiring eyes wherever you unveal the thumb..

Fender Classic Series '69 Telecaster Thinline Electric Guitar Natural Review

Fender Classic Series '69 Telecaster Thinline Electric Guitar Natural
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Had one for five years - playing for 40- to me this completely sounds and plays like what a Tele should be. It allows you to cut through the mix with your parts without clobbering people with volume. I added a fishman tele bridge pickup to mine. Fishman Powerbridge VT
That brings up the coolest thing about Leo Fender's guitars. There are tons of "upgrade" and aftermarket parts to change them. Keep the original parts to preserve the value of the instrument for resale and have some fun customizing your axe! I like the honking thick neck on these - some people prefer other neck profiles. The finishes and quality coming out of Fender's Mexican factories since 2000 exceeds Fender's American factory's stuff from the 70's in my opinion. Enjoy a classic.

Fender Special Edition Custom Telecaster Spalted Maple HH Electric Guitar Spalted Maple Review

Fender Special Edition Custom Telecaster Spalted Maple HH Electric Guitar Spalted Maple
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Got a spalted maple telecaster. Was set up nice out of the box. It has the SD59 in the neck and Pearly Gates pup in the bridge. Much brighter sound than my Gibson Les Paul Studio faded cherry, and Les Paul Traditional Pro. The split pickups are a great feature, which converts the humbuckers into a single coil. Not quite as twangy as a regular telecaster, but you can tell the difference between the pickups being split and not. The neck pickup is not quite as bright, and I use it with the tone turned all the way down for almost an acoutic type of feel. I prefer the humbuckers to single coils because of the more full sound. With the mahogony body, maple top, set neck, binding and humbuckers, it's probably closer to a Gibson than a Fender. Some have said that it sounds more like an SG, but not owning one, I couldn't say.
On the negative side for me, Fenders tend to have longer necks, and as a result strings need to be under higher tension to give the same note versus a Gibson. As a result, I find it a little more difficult to bend notes on this guitar than on my Gibsons. It's wider frets are nice to play, especially if you are doing 2nd guitar or just playing chords.
While the bridge pickup is pretty bright, surprisingly, its not as bright as the Burstbucker 3 in my traditional pro. Yet, the traditional pro with its pickup split still can't get quite as twangy as the Telecaster.
If you are a true Telecaster fan, and love the traditional twang, this guitar is not for you. However, if you like Gibsons and want a change of pace, this is a really nice guitar. Not a 100% traditional sound, but sounds pretty good. And you won't sound like all of the telecasters and les pauls out there.

I was looking for a 12 string to play in my new band Totshi and chose the stargazer 12. It has features of a more expensive guitar like tap coil, binded neck, graphite nut, humbucker pickups, and 25 and one half scale. This 12 string is easy to play and it stays in tune and really sounds good.

Cordoba 25TK-CE Acoustic Electric Tenor Ukulele Review

Cordoba 25TK-CE Acoustic Electric Tenor Ukulele
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Ordered this Ukulele because its handmade in portugal and not from a production line in china. However when it was finally delivered it was very disappointing. Despite the Uke being of solid build from fantastic Koa wood the finish was very very poor. Every surface on this Uke was ruined by dark noticeable scratches underneath the satin varnish from an orbital sander. Even the neck was covered, from the body all the way up to the tuners. Small dark swirl scratches were on the front, the sides and back in large patches. Some were so dark you could see them from 12 feet away. The Uke also had two large dings in the bottom where it had been dropped or something and the was varnish cracked and shattered. The Uke arrived in a resealed box which made me think it could have been a returned item being shipped out again, thats just my guess. If the finish of this Uke was as good as my friends production line chinese ones it would've been great.

Carl Martin Quattro Multi Effects Pedal Review

Carl Martin Quattro Multi Effects Pedal
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Having had such good experiences with other CM products, I thought I'd give this a try. Glad I did!
It has the same quality of Carl Martin pedals, but without any frills. Start with the compressor...
I have used the four-knob CM compressor for decades without a problem, and for mission-critical studio work, I prefer the extra control those two extra knobs provide. In live situations, that is usually not necessary. This compressor has the same transparency as CM's other models, but is easier to use. You have only to adjust amount of compression and the level.
Drives: These are simple versions of the Rock-drive circuit; at least that's how they sound to me. Again, they have simpler & fewer controls but most of the same great character that the famous Plexi-Drive and Rock drive units have. You get your choice of two, so I generally set one for just a bit of crunch and the other for high-gain soloing.
Chorus: This and the old analog TC chorus are the best sounding choruses ever. The advantage of using a dedicated chorus in a separate pedal is merely that if it breaks down, you don't lose your whole sound. Otherwise, this gives you 100% of the lush quality sound and 80% of the control. SInce I have never had any problems with any of my CM products, I see that as a very small advantage. Therefore, the multiple advantages of simplicity, easy set-up and fast adjustment outweigh OCD tweaking capability.
Delay: This does everything we typically need except ducking-delay, but you can achieve nearly the same effect as ducking by rolling back the tone knob. When you reduce the high-frequency content of the delay, it seems to disappear into the mix except for rests and quiet passages, just like a ducking delay.
Turn the tone knob up, and the delay sound becomes crystal-clear, like a digital delay but without any digital harshness or aliasing artifacts. Analog delays of this quality used to cost several hundred dollars by themselves. The tap tempo allows you to set delay-time instantly.
Although I wouldn't recommend it if you are drunk on stage, it is quite easy to adjust the chicken-head knobs with your foot. Assuming you are not clumsy, That means you can adjust this thing on-the-fly during solos or before tunes in seconds.
The manual is easy too, but this is so intuitive you don't need it at all. Just plug it in and play. Assuming you already have a good guitar, know how to play and use a good amp, you will get high production-value tone in seconds. It's almost impossible to make this thing sound bad.
I like this because it does 90% of what my fancy rack system does, but it fits inside the back of a twin reverb amp. With the amp on wheels, I can roll into any gig with a single guitar and cover almost any pop-rock-country-blues or Jazz sound.
Price: I'll let you do the math. True, you can get all these effects and more in cheaper units, but you won't get Carl Martin boutique quality, low-noise, transparency and analog response. Since most individual pedals of this quality cost over $200, getting four simplified pedals in one unit is a bargain. The only difference is you have to spring for the whole shebang at once. Personally, I prefer that method. I have found time-and time again, it is always easier better and ultimately less expensive to get the good tools from the start.
It is a lot of fun to experiment with new pedals or arcane sound effects. The cost of individual pedals is usually not prohibitive even for boutique stuff. Over time, the main effects we always rely upon are those included with this unit.
If you want to add a special "pet" pedal of yours, no problem. This has effect send and returns. So if you absolutely need a tremolo or other gimmick for certain tunes, this will accommodate those with no hassle. Recently, I had to include tremolo for a gig where we did some old CCR. I used the Boss / Fender deluxe reverb pedal which has the tremolo effect. The signal path is 1 MegOhm resistance and buffered, so any other pro-pedal will respond very nicely. It's just like using a buffered effects loop in a pro amp. You can add fancy reverbs or wahs the same way.
Is this the most sophisticated and versatile system? No. I don't care. It sounds great and is easy to use. If I need some extra gizmo for certain tunes, I'll just add them as needed. In the studio, I let the engineer add stuff in post. Most of the time with this beauty, you don't need anything else.
The case is all steel and pretty heavy gage, although the unit is light. That's another advantage of putting everything together in one unit. You are wasting less metal and real-estate because you enclose the whole thing in one unit. That saves money on cables and prevents a failure mechanism too.
The only down-side I see with this is if you ( or some drunk ) destroys it with heavy footwork or some other stupidity, you are SOL. Since I don't allow drunks to step on my stuff and am pretty careful, I have had no problems. In the studio, I put this on the desk and adjust everything by hand. The rest of the time it stays safely in the back of the Twin, so with that gentle treatment, I doubt it will die soon.
Believe me, I have used the most complex racks, pedal board systems and high-end studio gear imaginable. The simplicity and superb analog tone of this are hard to equal and almost impossible to beat. I would not recommend it for heavy metal specialists. Those are a different species altogether. For 90% of popular styles... this is my new favorite toy. It is not a Swiss Army knife, but it has the most important four blades, and they are sharp!

Seymour Duncan SFX-04 Twin Tube Mayhem Distortion Guitar Effects Pedal Review

Seymour Duncan SFX-04 Twin Tube Mayhem Distortion Guitar Effects Pedal
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Hands down best I have heard! LOTS of balls to this sound! Blows my Boss MT2 away! Warm thick bassy distortion fantastic tone not dark its exactly what I was looking for. EQ gives plenty of tonal variety. The +4 or +8dB gain intensifies the tone for an awesome lead sound. Rolling back guitar volume gives a nice smooth lead tone. This pedal will push a tube amp to full bore metal and beyond at the cost of muddiness (I didnt buy the pedal to do this anyway). Its noisy like any high gain pedal but the tone is worth it. Get a good gate I run it behind a Decimator G into an Egnater. Built like a tank. Runs fine off CIOKS AC10 PSU (pedal needs 16V AC 650mA).
If you are thinking of getting this pedal just do it you wont regret it.

Godin SD 22 Electric Guitar (Black Pearl RN) Review

Godin SD 22 Electric Guitar (Black Pearl RN)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
- The neck is make from Rock Maple. Generally grown in only cold climate. It is a very stable wood and perfect for a guitar neck. The neck is really easy to get your hands around.
- The body is made from maple and poplar. The center portion of the guitar body is maple and the outer wings are poplar. Poplar wood is a lighter wood which reduces the weight of the guitar making it more enjoyable to play. Compared to my "heavy" Les Paul, this is a big deal.
- Strap lock stems are standard on this guitar.
- Tuners turn smoothly and stay in tune.
- Pickups are very good. The bridge humbucker has great tones for lead guitar and the center and neck single coil pickups give this guitar a nice mix of tones.
- The bridge like the rest of the guitar have adjustments for height and intonation. The metal looks as if it is precision make for height and intonation adjustments.
- This guitar is totally under rated. Great bang for the buck. I own a USA Tele, USA Start and USA Les Paul and this guitar holds it's own. Even the deeply knurled knobs make my Strat and Les Paul look cheap.
- Finally I did need to adjust the height of the pickups to get the tone I wanted. For some reason the pickups are set very low from the strings. You simply hold the strings down on the last fret and adjust the clearance between the string and the pickup to what you desire. 1/16" is where I adjusted mine and it sounds soooo sweet!
- Although I love my telecaster the most, this guitar is like a combination of a Les Paul and a Strat. You can't go wrong buying it. I just don't know why you don't hear more about the Godin electric's.

The SD 22 combines the easy feel of a short scale with the added snap of a rock maple neck. The short scale reduces string tension, which provides easy string bending and augments the low frequency response. The compact feel of the neck and the diagonal radius carved into the body produces exceptional balance and comfort. In short, this guitar is fun to play, and lends itself to classic rock and R&B sounds.

Maple and Poplar Body
The SD 22 is constructed with a blend of two tonewoods. A center of silver leaf maple serves as an anchor for the neck and is flanked by poplar sidepieces, resulting in Godin's stated goal of making electrics that begin with a great acoustic sound. Solid body instruments may not produce much in the way of volume, but make no mistake, wood weight and density, type (and quality) of the neck/body attachment, type of bridge and nut material all have an impact on that final sound.
One Godin GHB1 humbucker and two Godin GS1 single-coil pickups, along with a five-way switch for serious tonal options.

Gibson Custom ES-339 Semi-Hollow Electric Guitar with 30/60 Neck Light Caramel Burst Review

Gibson Custom ES-339 Semi-Hollow Electric Guitar with 30/60 Neck Light Caramel Burst
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I went to a couple popular stores and tried every semi-hollow body they had. I got narrowed down to the 335 and the 339. I used a Fender 65 Deluxe reverb amp to compare all guitars. I kept coming back to the 339. Mine has the 30/60 neck. I found the 59 rounded neck a bit chunkier. I guess its the Classic 57 pickups that give this guitar its balls over a 335. So I hammered it and took it home. I play blues, classic rock, light coffee house jazz. I have no use for a distortion or gain pedals. The guitar is bigger than a Les Paul and smaller than a 335. It is very very comfortable to play.
OK now for any short comings. Thankfully I have done my own setups on my acoustic guitars for several years. The first to go are the so called Custom TUNERS to be replaced by Gotoh Vintage Keystone-style. These look the same but stay in tune. Next and its no big deal is set the intonation. When replacing the strings I put on a pre-slotted bone NUT from MoJo Supply and threw away the piece plastic. In looking at the guitar without rose colored glasses like when buying it i noticed the strings were shifted towards the high E string at the saddle quite noticeably at the end of the fretboard. Nice. Was the saddle posts put in 1/8 inch out of alignment or what? Boy this could be a major job to correct. No sense in calling Gibson. I decided to cut new string slots and move all the stings towards the low E string in the saddles. I will next replace the whole flimsy saddle assembly with a better one. Ok lets talk about the pickup angles to the strings. Mine were angled at least a 1/4 inch. In other words not parallel with the strings. Not even remotely close. Do I call Gibson and not get another call or email returned? Or buy new PICKUP MOUNTING RINGS that are flat and not SLANTED? I took the pickups out and sanded the rings down on one side so now the pickups set parallel to the strings. I have had to tightened the TRUSS ROD three times. It was sloppy loose from the factory. In final (I hope) I set the bridge that the strings go through all the way down on the body of the guitar. I read somewhere some like doing this for sustain maybe. I think it DOES make some slight difference. However when doing this the strings will hit the back of the saddle assembly before they make contact with the saddles. To fix this you start the strings in the opposite end of the bridge and they will wrap OVER the bridge raising them up enough to clear the saddle assembly.
FINISH. Thankfully my vintage sunburst was acceptable. I have seen photos from other happy 339 owners showing stain runs or sags the length of the back that were just finished over hoping someone would think they were grain lines.
OK thats all folks. This is my main work horse guitar. Having run Gibson "Custom" shop in the ground here I do love the guitar. The tone with the pickups is wonderful and the sustain is as good as using a compression pedal. Do not fear about buying one of these guitars because of my experience here. Just look at some things before your return policy is up. Buck for buck it is one of the best buys Gibson has at the moment. If it were lost I would replace it with another in a minute.

ZVex Inventobox Guitar Multi Effects Pedal Review

ZVex Inventobox Guitar Multi Effects Pedal
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is really cool concept! The whole idea is that you're able to recreate and tweak actual ZVex pedal designs and add to them/mod them in any way you see fit. Given that this package includes the parts to make effects that (if you bought the separately) would cost you well over $400, this is not a bad deal at all, not to mention the fact that you have the ability to mod them and combine them in ways that you couldn't with the stock unit. ZVex isn't just selling the parts to make a random pedal, they're giving you the ability to recreate their own (very expensive pedals) so you really you've gotta think about it like this: yes, the parts alone are not worth $400 dollars, but the fact that you get actual ZVex designs is a huge bonus, PLUS the whole system of being able to tweak the pedal and add/remove parts on the fly (not to mention without solder) is something you'd never be able to achieve with a typical pedal kit. In addition, you can take it apart and make something new out of it when you get tired of what you've made! Try that with a typical pcb and soldered connections and let me know how it goes!
Overall, there are tons of reasons to invest in this box. Great quality ZVex designs, high quality parts, easy modification and endless creative possibilities. Great stuff!

This is an awesome guitar, it's got a great pair of humbuckers that even make a poor overdrive (like my Squier 10 watt amp's overdrive) into a respectable overdrive, it's also got a good clean sound, pretty good for stuff like Cementery Gates or even Wish You Were Here, it lost 1 star because it was a bit damaged, the packaging wasn't as good, it seemed that the bubble page was just stuffed in, not covering the headstock, but overall, this is a great begginner's guitar.

I tried out the 15W version and it simply blew me away, so I figured the 50W would rip even more. Loud as s**t, killer clean tones plus Marshall tones. I tried it out at Guitar Center and got a small crowd immediately using the US high gain setting with some delay. A salesman came over and asked what amp I was using, as he knew nothing about it. He bought one that day. Rated the best 50 watt combo ever by Guitar Player mag. I run a Hafler T3 3 channel (clean, dirty, super dirty) tube preamp into it using a clean setting with a Quadreverb. What a nasty rock tone. Plus it's closed back, so lots of punch and bass response. Buying another one to go stereo. The only drawback is the pedal that you'd need to switch through the 11 programs, if you use the amp on it's own. It costs almost as much as the amp. Otherwise, does this amp ever kick a**.
