(More customer reviews)This is a great instrument.
I bought mine secondhand at a pawn shop and was very happy about it. When I looked it up on Amazon to find out the price, I was surprised to not see any reviews on it!
I have the FGX720SCA in Brown Sunburst, which is, in my opinion, the nicest of the finishes.
It's pretty simple. It's a standard 6 string guitar. It only has one strap peg, so you'll have to either add another peg or tie the other end to the headstock with a shoelace, which really isn't a big deal. This strap peg is also where you plug it in if you want to use the "electric" part of this acoustic electric. The other electronics, including a built-in tuner which is SO useful, are on the top of the guitar above the neck, so they're easy to change or look at while you're playing. It sounds great unplugged, and I've only plugged it in a few times, but it sounds just fine plugged in as well.
It has a solid top, so it will just sound better as the years go by, and it sounds pretty good new. It has a nice, balanced tone - not too jangly and bright, but not too bassy and warm - that suits many styles. I have had many people who have played it that talk about how nice it sounds.
As for playability, it's top notch. The action is low and the frets are well finished, so you don't have to worry about hurting yourself while playing. And of course, there's the cutaway, which friends who play electric (I do not) have remarked was a nice little feature.
If you want a great acoustic guitar, this is it. It's not a Martin or a Gibson, so it doesn't have much collectable value (if any at all) but you aren't going to find a Martin or a Gibson under $1000 that sounds and plays as well as this instrument. It's a great, standard dreadnaught acoustic-electric that you will not regret getting.
Happy playing!
