(More customer reviews)I have played many guitars, Taylors, Martins, Collings, Larrivee, Lowden, etc.. In my opinion, there are no other guitars anywhere near this price range that can compete with Seagull artist series.
Solid sitka spruce top
solid indian rosewood back and sides
Adirondack spruce bracing
honduran mahogany neck
ebony fretboard and bridge
Graphtech TUSQ nut and bridgepins
On board tuner and dual source electronics (mic/piezo)
If you want to get similar specs with any other brand you will be shelling out $5k minimum. Brands like Taylor and Martin typically don't even offer Adirondack bracing except on their high end 'custom' models. Adirondack bracing is highly preferable to the standard Sitka bracing because it is lighter and more flexible, which allows the top to move more freely.
The only guitars I have played which come close to this Seagull in terms of price and performance are the lower end Larrivee such as the D-03 and L-03 models. Those are certainly nice sounding guitars, I would say the D-03 sounds almost as good as this Seagull but its fit and finish and electronics are far inferior.
I have owned numerous acoustics which were much more expensive than this one, most of them I ended up selling or trading. I've been playing this as my main acoustic for around 6 months and I can say with certainty that I will never part with it. It sounds amazing already and the top hasn't even begun to break in yet.
One thing to note is that Seagull uses 24.75" scale length and 1.75" nut width standard, this is shorter scale width and wider nut than most other companies standard dreadnaught. The shorter scale length lends a slightly darker tone but also gives reduced string tension which is advantageous for bending or alternate tunings. I like to use 80/20 bronze strings rather than phosphor bronze on this guitar to brighten it up a bit to compensate for the shorter scale.
