(More customer reviews)I am just thoroughly pleased with this purchase. Let me tell you what else I have so you might get an idea of what I am talking about. I have a 1938 Gibson LOO, a National Style O, a National El Trovador, a Martin OM-16Gt, and a Recording King ROS 626. This Washburn Parlor is by far the cheapest guitar of them all, but it has stolen more than it's fair share of playin' time from the big boys.
The workmanship seems excellent to me. The intonation is nearly perfect...just plays wonderfully in tune up the neck. Since I am primarily a blues finger-picker, I love the funky sound of this guitar. If you are a flat picking dreadnaught lover, I'd advise you to stop reading here now and click somewhere else because this guitar is not for you. It's got a fat neck and is wide at the nut which I love. It has no pick guard, but I pilfered an iphone screen guard that just barely sticks on the wood to protect it from my plastic finger picks. It's got a few scratches and scuffs built into the design to make it look old, but I am not interested in making it look any older than it looks. There may be another solution for that later on, but right now what I have is fine.
One thing that really surprised me is that it has a great voice for slide. It just sings and growls like none of my other wooden acoustics do under the slide. I took the light strings off immediately and put on mediums which I always use. That really improved the tone and punch of this little honey.
I think this guitar looks cooler than an Al-Qaeda tea party in the West Wing of the White House. I love the inlay, and at this cheap price, why not go for the top of the line with the solid rosewood back and sides, your grandkid will thank you for that someday when he gets his sweaty hands on it. Meanwhile, you're gonna just be crazy about this guitar.
Bottom line, if I have to walk off into the sunset, this is the guitar I'm taking with me. It's light, loud, and lovely toned. Somebody gave me a Washburn T shirt a few years ago. Now I wear that with pride. This is one fine guitar. Makes me want to pack it up and go over there to Indonesia and see what the heck those boys over there are all about because they sure do nice work. And for 500 and some dollars, dang...what a deal!
