Seagull Coastline S6 Spruce Guitar - FBA Review

Seagull Coastline S6 Spruce Guitar - FBA

I just got back from Guitar Center with the S6 acoustic, and I have to say it is an extremely nice guitar. I paid $370 with a case thrown-in to sweeten the deal. Here's my review.
Appearence = (9) Visually, the headstock takes alittle getting used to, and I really like the two-tone difference of the body and neck. I also like the binding around the headstock and outter lining of the body. This guitar looks extremely well put together, and could probably sell for a much higher price.
Sound quality = (9) If you want a big resonating acoustic for under $500.00 this is the guitar for you. Crisp treble and smooth bass are to be expected upon purchase.
I wasn't even looking to buy an acoustic, but I had to have it after I picked up the guitar. Most acoustics sound dull to me, but the S6 projects beautiful tones from it's big-bodied design.
Playability and action = (10) As far as acoustics, this is the first one I have played that really feels like an electric guitar in my hands. Bending strings and adding vibrato are easily accomplished on this guitar. The entire body is smooth as butter, and the neck is extremely fast. I personally hate a finished backing on any of my guitars. Pleasently, this guitar seems to have none, and feels silky smooth to the touch.
Workmanship = (10) This guitar is extremely well put together. I especially like how fast and precise the tuners are on the guitar.
Hope this helps in your decision, now go out and try one for yourself!

Art & Lutherie Ami Nylon String Cedar Guitar Review

Art and Lutherie Ami Nylon String Cedar Guitar
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
To the eye: It's a great looking guitar for sure, with REAL rosette inlays on a gorgeous cedar top. It would look great hung up on a wall, or sitting in a corner - good since you will not want to put it away, ever.
To the ear: Intonation is dead on, and the tone on this is absolutely even up and down the entire fretboard, with excellent clarity and separation of the individual notes. The parlor size doesn't provide much bass, but it's not tinny at all, and it is much louder than you'd expect. It is not a baby or travel guitar sound, but definitely a real parlor sound with good projection and that tight clarity you would expect.
To the hands: the modern neck has a sort of hybrid feel - with the seeming acres of classical fretboard, but a thinner depth than most old classicals (it has an adjustable truss rod). I generally play steel strings (30 years), but I just can't put this little nylon beauty down (the somewhat thinner neck might be part of it), and it's increased my playing by hours and hours a week. It's a great player for just... playing. In a word: Comfortable.
To the wallet: Handmade in Canada by the same people who make the Seagulls I believe. At $300, I think it's just a ridiculous deal, and a value that can't help but appreciate over time. Buy it, play it for 10 years, sell it for a profit.
To the Devil's Advocate: It does have gold/pearloid tuners. I hate gold hardware and I hate pearloid, so they'll be leaving us soon.... YMMV

Blackstar HT Series HT-5H 5W Tube Guitar Amp Head Black Review

Blackstar HT Series HT-5H 5W Tube Guitar Amp Head Black
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Played one of these at Guitar Center. It was the Blackstar HT-5 Head hooked up to 2 10" Blackstar cabs. Used a PRS Singlecut SE with it. They also had an Egnater Rebel Head. The Blackstar HT-5 sounded way better than the Egnater IMO and was able to get decent high gain tones at lower volume. The ISF knob makes a big difference in the voicing of the mids of the amp and really changes its character. I also tried to max the gain, Bass @ 10, Mids @ 0, Treble @ 10 and it sounded like mud however that is an extreme metal setting. Cleans are good but not outstanding. Overall this amp has its own sound to it but I would say its closer to a high gain Marshall than it is to a Mesa Rectifier. I believe the power tube it uses isn't a common size but you can find replacements which is something to consider as well. There are also a lot of youtube videos of this amp and I can say it sounds better and more full in person as youtube tends to add a lot of compression.

Kustom Quad 100DFX 2x12" Guitar Combo Amplifier Review

Kustom Quad 100DFX 2x12 Guitar Combo Amplifier
Average Reviews:

Although I didn't buy this amp new, it still kicks. Loud rich tones, (celestions RAWK!!) Perfect for practice and gigs. I would suggest, as with any combo amp, get an amp stand so that you can turn down the volume, by bringing the speakers closer or in the direction of ears. You may have to search for and buy an A/B effect channel switch pedal. I purchased a fender A/B pedal for less than $30.00 from a local music store. Right now I practice with another guitarist who uses a b-52 head and marshall cab and I can still match him. That's not to mention the drummer and the bass player who has a full ampeg cab. This will definately put you in business (i.e. a band). One should consider though, later, additional combos. I'm currently looking at the Fender Hotrod Deluxe (used by coldplay), but that's just because I like their sound. Anyway, you will definately get your money's worth and be a working musician, especially if you are on a budget.
Cheers!!!

So far I haven't any complaints about this product. However, it was advertised as being new either by Amazon, or the seller, but was actually a refurbished item.

Schecter Blackjack C-1 Electric Guitar (Gloss Black) Review

Schecter Blackjack C-1 Electric Guitar (Gloss Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
After some research on other websites, I decided to buy this guitar off Amazon. This is a review of both that experience as well as the guitar itself. I ordered the guitar on a tuesday afternoon, and paid an extra four dollars to have it delivered next day, when it arrived at 10am on the wednesday. The guitar came sealed in a box from Schecter, and the serial number indicated it was an '09 model (meaning this wasn't a leftover of some sort). The guitar appears to be setup very well - no fret buzz, and only two strings weren't in tune (they were off by just a bit). The guitar appears to be brand new, and not a return or anything else sketchy. All in all, I got a good deal on this guitar from Amazon, and am pleased with the purchase and delivery of it. They do appear to have exceedingly good deals on some of the secondary guitar brands (like schecter and BC Rich, as opposed to fender and gibson) from time to time, with much better prices than other sites.
The guiter itself is great - check out the Schecter website for the full specs, but here's the lowdown: set neck, two seymour duncan humbuckers (a 59 and a JB), three way switch, two volume controls (one for each pickup) and a push/pull tone knob that allows for coil splitting. I wasn't totally clear on whether the coil splitting was on this model, so I'm glad to see it is. This guitar has extra jumbo frets, and what seems to me like a pretty extended range, compared to my Strat. It has a solid feel, isn't too heavy, sounds good, and has quite a bit of sustain. I've only had it a day so far, but it's what I expected, and is a solid guitar. It's not as pretty as some of the other schecter models (not that there's anything wrong with it, but some of the other models are gorgeous), but I was looking for something highly functional and exceedingly playable, and this one fits the bill.

Dean Razorback V Standard - Black Finish Electric Guitar with Hardshell Case Review

Dean Razorback V Standard - Black Finish Electric Guitar with Hardshell Case
Average Reviews:

Mine is Black with red trim. The pickups are awesome! The sound from these passive pickups is first rate. Most of my other guitars a Zakk Wylde Les Paul with 81/85 and a Eric Clapton Signature Fender Strat (Blacky) have active pickups but this one holds its own. It is a screaming monster, a true tribute to one of if not the best Metal guitar God of all times. The V shaped neck is fast and the guitar is light in weight but Heavy in sound. I strongly recommend it!
